Job Description

  • Coordinator of Clinical and Behavioral Services
Objective:
  • To build capacity of district staff to provide effective clinical and behavioral support services for all PreK 12 students in New Bedford.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee aspects of the Student Services Department and work with NBPS staff including but not limited to School Adjustment Counselors and administrators to develop and implement a tiered system of social emotional and behavioral interventions that meet the needs of the whole student.
  • Assist in the development of MultiTiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to include both inschool and community supports and interventions to address social emotional and behavioral learning across the district.
  • Lead oversee and assist in the collection and analysis of various mental health and/or social/emotional screenings to expand comprehensive social emotional systems of support.
  • Support the Whole Child Support Team (WCST) at the school and district level.
  • Attend Whole Child Support Team (WCST) meetings as necessary to contribute to the development of Whole Child Support Plans.
  • Keep informed on all legal requirements governing special education to ensure compliance with IEPs with social emotional goals.
  • Work collaboratively with all school staff: provide technical assistance and consultation to better support students exhibiting social emotional and behavioral challenges.
  • Oversee 504 process and monitor for completeness and quality of content and accuracy of procedure
  • Encourage staff to maintain consistent and frequent communication with parents and community partners.
  • Develop and lead meaningful workshops and professional development trainings for staff parents and community partners in order to improve social emotional programming for all students.
  • Interview recommend new hires and supervise purposeful assignments of staff
  • Maintain accurate complete and correct student and staff records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Attend specific meetings (in and out of district) as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Services.
  • Maintain consistent and regular communications with relevant community partners.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Services.
Qualifications:
  • Certification in proper area and level by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (Supervisor/Director)
  • Masters Degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Evidence of specific professional study in the field of special education psychology social work including educational administration and supervision
  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)
  • Three years experience in the area of Special Education or Student Services
  • Knowledge/experience with the DESE educator evaluation system
  • Experience designing and implementing new student support programs
  • Experience working with community based mental health agencies Department of Child and Family Services Department of Youth Services Department of Mental Health and other community programs to better integrate services for students in the New Bedford Public Schools
  • Experience with facilitating mental health screenings with the plan to expand current practices
  • Understanding of requirements for DESE mandated restraint training and experience working with schools to complete the training process
  • Excellent communication skills written verbal and nonverbal
  • Experience in Crisis Intervention Individual Group and Family Interventions and developing Functional Behavioral Assessments and Comprehensive Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Excellent interpersonal and social skills with colleagues district staff families and community
  • Excellent work attendance
Terms of Employment:
  • Reports to: Executive Director of Student Services
  • Rate: In accordance with the Unit B contract found here
