Job Description
THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As an Education Guidance Counselor Corrections Education you will provide educational counselingto incarcerated adults. You will interview and guide inmates to determine their career objectives post educational goals and higher educational goals. You will inform inmates about available educational programming and assist with resume writing mock interviews and job search efforts.This role requires the ability to establish effective working relationships with educational staff to ensure sound educational plans as well as a genuine desire to guide and encourage inmates to participate in programs that prepare them for reentry into the community. In addition you willserve as an alternate GED examiner verify all mandated educational requirements are complete and review inmate progress performance and attendance.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Fulltime employment 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM Monday Friday with a 30minute lunch.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement.
- Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $64559.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling and four years of paraprofessional experience in education social work or counseling;or
- Two years of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling and a bachelors degree in the social sciences behavioral sciences education social work counseling or a closely related field;or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling.
Special Requirements:
- This position is assigned to an institution that houses state mandated schoolage students and requires a valid and active Educational Specialist 1 or Educational Specialist 2 certification in the field of elementary or secondary school guidance or school counseling issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. When no candidates possess the named certifications the selected candidate must be eligible for an Emergency Permit issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education that is appropriate to the position.
- Employees assigned to an institution that houses state mandated schoolage students and who were hired based on eligibility for an Emergency Permit must obtain a valid and active Educational Specialist 1 or Educational Specialist 2 certification in the field of elementary or secondary school guidance or school counseling issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown PA is required.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
