Job Description

Title: Indigenous Activities Assistant

Classification: Grantfunded Employee

Rate of pay: $22.94* per hour 16 in lieu of benefits) *$23.63 per hour effective July 1 2025

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Term: May 5 2025 Augustweeks)

Reports to: Executive Director


Our Indigenous activities assistant supports the planning and of Indigenous student activities during the summer term and supports grassroots communitybuilding and organizing among Indigenous students at Capilano University. While the Indigenous activities assistant receives direction and mentorship from the Indigenous initiatives director on a daytoday basis and can expect to interact and engage with our student leadership they ultimately share a reporting relationship with the executive director.


Duties

In particular the Indigenous activities assistant performs the following job duties:


Student Activities 45

  • Assists in the planning and of student programming for National Indigenous History Month National Indigenous Peoples Day the International Day of the Worlds Indigenous Peoples and other assigned activities.

Student Organizing 45

  • Develops and executes student recruitment and engagement activities to assist the Indigenous initiatives director the vicepresident equity and sustainability and the Indigenous students liaison in building a volunteer leadership team.
  • Assist the Indigenous initiatives director in building resources and capacity for the Indigenous students collective to organize collective/constituency meetings and contribute more independently to students union decisionmaking.
  • Develop orientation activities for new and returning Indigenous students delivered before the start of the new academic year to help the Indigenous students collective start the academic year active and engaged.

Other Duties 10

  • Works safely in accordance with our health and safety program.
  • Protects the personal information of coworkers students and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by resource staff or the executive director.

Qualifications

  • Lived Indigenous experience is required (see Indigenous Identity note).
  • Six months or more experience in communitybased organizing work.
  • Knowledgeable about postsecondary campus life.
  • Personable professional and wellorganized.
  • Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  1. Governmentissued records (such as a status card Mtis Nation citizenship card Nunavut trust certificate or Inuit enrollment card or ID issued by a nation with a modern treaty or selfgovernment agreement); or
  2. Selfdeclaration accompanied by a written statement with specifics about the candidates First Nation Mtis or Inuit community and a verification letter issued by the First Nation Mtis or Inuit community; or
