Job Description

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will work closely with faculty staff and students in the development and of the technical production needs in both the Annie Russell Theatre (ART) and Sally K. Albrecht Black Box Theatre (SKBB). The primary focus of these duties will be the daily operation of the ART scene shop.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with mainstage productions (carpentry lighting sound scene painting and props).
  • Support with the supervision and mentoring of student crews during the implementation phase of production in either theatres which may include stage lighting and soft good installation marley floor installation scenic loadin sound setup and installation lighting focus and cue programming.
  • Lead student crews in the creation of technical elements in the ART scene shop.
  • Supervise/mentor at 8outof10 technical rehearsals and dress rehearsals.
  • Maintenance and cleaning of all theatre lighting sound and rigging equipment and scene shop tools and materials.
  • Maintenance of theatre equipment and spaces including coordination of facilities maintenance with Rollins Facilities Management.
  • Possible opportunities for design assignments in lighting scenic or sound for departmental productionsin either theatres.
  • Maintain all OSHA standards in both theatres.
  • Teach safety standards to all students and ensure all safety standards are being practiced by everyone.
  • Work on improvement projects for both spaces when time permits.

Minimum
Qualifications & Education:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatre with an emphasis or concentration in technical theatre.
  • Possess avalid drivers license or ability to obtain a Florida drivers license within 30 days of accepting the job and an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At minimum of three years professional technical theatre experience.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Basic theatrical carpentry rigging lighting sound and scene painting.
  • Able to read and interpret and execute theatrical scenic draftings light and sound plots.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity and wiring for theatrical instruments cables.
  • Able to work at heights over 15.
  • Able to work while standing walking or climbing for length of workday.
  • Able to lift to 25 lbs. unassisted.
  • Knowledge of theatrical practices involving lighting hang focus troubleshooting. Addressing set up and operation of DMX theatrical lighting equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of theatrical sound system structure setup and operation.
  • Knowledge of operation of MS office including Word and Excel.
  • Basic programming and operation of ETC theatrical lighting console (EOS system).
  • Basic programming and operation of Qlab and Yamaha CL Series audio consoles.
  • Operational knowledge of Vectorworks CAD drafting program.

Work Environment:

  • The Tiedtke Theatre & Dance Centre is a new 16000 square foot space with dedicated classrooms studios faculty offices and dressing rooms as well as a 120160 flexible seating Blackbox theatre.
  • The Annie Russell Theatre is a traditional 372 seat proscenium arch space with a 33line set fly system and a fully walkable grid.

Work Schedule

The Assistant Technical Director is a fulltime 10month appointment scheduled to work August through May7.5 hours/day 37.5 hours per week/1612.5 hours annually. The schedule for this role is generally 9 AM until 5 PM MondayFriday.

*Flexible schedules or overtime during nights/weekends may be required to meet the demands of the academic on call during performances for trouble shooting and assistance.
