Job Description

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

This is a full time fixedterm role until 30 June 2026. Our preferred location is Melbourne however applications outside this jurisdiction are welcomed.

TheSenior Policy Officer supports the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) and its Committees in their regulatory role policy and standards development by researching and developing registration standards professional codes standards guidelines and policy which meet the National Boards requirements and undertaking appropriate internal and external stakeholder consultation as required.

A key focus of the role is to support the coordination of work being completed to review registration pathways for international medical graduates (IMGs). That includes the development of registration pathways registration standards guidelines and relevant explanatory material and engage in consultations with key stakeholders as part of a review to streamline pathways and processes.

In this role you will:

  • Work with and be guided by the Medical Board its Committees and Ahpra staff as you progress your work.
  • Participate in and/or develop and implement project plans to ensure that IMG registration pathways registration standards guidelines and other explanatory materials are developed within relevant time frames and funding.
  • Develop consultation and communication materials for stakeholders including for applicants medical practitioners and relevant organisations.
  • Develop implementation plans and materials for new or revised registration pathways policies standards or guidelines related to IMGs.
  • Prepare reports for governments and stakeholders as required
  • Convene and provide secretariat support for meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
