Job Description

The School District of Clayton is seeking a fulltime studentcentered Reading Specialist to join our Wydown Middle School staff for theschool year.

POSITION SUMMARY:Works with individual students and small groups of students to provide reading support. Provides support to classroom teachers.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and other specialists to plan and develop courses of study according to curriculum guidelines which meet the individual students learning needs and objectives.
  • Teaches Literacy classes if necessary for the building
  • Records progress monitoring data in EduClimber
  • Develops and presents specific lesson plans using a variety of teaching strategies.
  • Evaluates student learning needs and communicates with parents or guardians about the students learning needs.
  • Maintains order in the classroom and in conjunction with administrative staff administers discipline when necessary to achieve proper behavior.
  • Keeps records of academic performance attendance and social acclimation. Reports on all aspects of student development for school records and parents; conducts parentteacher conferences on both a regularly scheduled and asneeded basis.
  • Consults with other professionals to use diagnostic evaluation data of students; develops instruction plans in compliance with IEPs; differentiates instruction according to individual needs.
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings educational conferences and teacher training workshops.
  • Assumes responsibility for the effective functioning of the school to include necessary noninstructional assignments and student management throughout the entire building.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested by the building principal.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Required qualifications to effectively perform job. An equivalent combination of education training and experience will be considered.

  • Requires a minimum of practice teaching experience Bachelors degree Masters degree in Reading and eligibility for Missouri teacher certification.
  • Education Preparation: (Formal and Informal)
  • Requires Missouri teacher certification and Special Reading certification

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES May be representative but not allinclusive of those knowledge skills and responsibilities commonly associated with the job.

  • (Attendance) Classroom management requires daily attendance to meet student needs.
  • (Mobility) Requires travel to work sites within the district.
  • (Reading) Interprets test results; reviews and interprets printed reports to obtain information necessary for decision making planning and management in assigned area(s).
  • (Dexterity) Operates standard office and classroom equipment.
  • (Writing) Provides written procedures for plan preparation and implementation; communicates student assignments and behavior problems with others in writing.
  • (Communicating) Provides instruction to students; discusses education programs with teachers administrators and/or citizens; conducts individual or group meetings; works with students to reinforce learning assignments; works with students to reinforce learning assignments; assists with the supervision of students; discusses student assignments and behavior problems with others.
  • (Sight) Reviews published educational materials for selection purposes; observes and evaluates student performance; checks students work corrects papers supervises testing; assesses the accomplishments of students and provides progress report
