Job Description

Position Title: Electrician Unlicensed

Bargaining Unit: Grand Rapids Educational Support Professionals Association (GRESPA)

Pay Rate: Determined by the collective bargaining

agreement

Earning Days: Determined by the negotiated calendar

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Unlicensed Electrician is a member of the Operations Team. This person reports to the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for assisting in the operation of the Electrical Maintenance Department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Work closely under Master/Journeyman electrician to repair electrical systems including lights and distribution
  • Must be willing to learn how to efficiently and thoroughly troubleshoot and repair building electrical systems
  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • Assist with other departments as requested.
  • Assist with offhour emergency calls 24 hours/day 7 days/week
  • Promote continuous quality improvement with team members
  • Interact with coworkers other departments administration students parents and the community in positive supportive and cooperative ways
  • Must furnish own hand tools for the trade
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Currently registered with the State of Michigan as an Apprentice Electrician required
  • Minimum of one 1 year experience
  • Possess drivers license good driving record and own transportation to and from job sites
  • Demonstrated good attendance punctuality accountability and performance
  • Demonstrated ability to participate as a member of a team

The physical demands work environment factors and mental functions described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand walk sit use hands to finger handle or feel reach with hands and arms climb or balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl carries materials and equipment talk hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Must be able to work outside for extended periods (up to the entire eight 8 hour shift in varying types of weather conditions. Must be able to climb and work from scaffolding ladders and within tunnels as necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is performed primarily indoors although there will be required outdoor work.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to compare analyze communicate both orally and in writing copy coordinate instruct compute synthesize evaluate use interpersonal skills compile and negotiate.
