Job Description
Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking a Media and Public Relations Officer to join the team. This role focuses on sharing accurate and timely information about the Councils activities and services building a strong connection with the local community.
What we offer:
- $74000$89000 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience) Superannuation
- 5 weeks Annual Leave (with 17.5 Leave Loading)
- Monthly RDO 13 per year)
- Personal (Sick) Leave
- Remote Area Housing Assistance $60 pw Renting / $90 pw Homeowner)
- Locality Allowance
What you will do:
- Act as the main point of contact for all mediarelated matters
- Plan and deliver clear effective communication strategies.
- Write media releases manage social media content and respond to media enquiries.
- Produce engaging materials to inform and connect with the community.
- Maintain the Councils website and digital platforms.
- Monitor public and media feedback and assist with emergency communication.
- Work closely with the Executive Leadership Team and other departments
What we are looking for:
- A skilled communicator with strong writing and digital content skills
- Someone who can work independently and adapt in a fastpaced environment.
- A person passionate about connecting with the community and promoting Council initiatives.
- Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends when required.
Qualifications Needed:
Mandatory:
- Demonstrated experience in a similar media or public relations role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience managing social media and digital content.
- Current C Class Drivers Licence
Desirable:
- Qualification in Communications Public Relations Journalism or a related field
- Experience working within local government or the public sector.
- Familiarity with media monitoring tools and content creation software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite Canva etc.
- Knowledge of regional and remote community dynamics
