Job Duties
Hampton Roads District is seeking a highly motivated professional to successfully manage and complete preliminary geotechnical engineering activities for all district construction/maintenance projects to include development of subsurface investigation programs to meet project design needs such as soil surveys major/minor structure foundation investigations slope stability/embankment foundation and pavement evaluations/investigations. You will evaluate analyze and incorporate subsurface investigation data into appropriate design recommendations for pavements major/minor structures embankment foundations and slope stability resolutions; and provide technical assistance to construction field staff for resolution of geotechnical and pavement related issues that arise during construction. Position will monitor and track workload and provide monthly summary to supervisor; and provide construction engineering support to VDOT county state and consultant staff.

A combination of training experience or education in Geotechnical Engineering Geology or related field desired.
Knowledge of VDOT specifications standards programs procedures and policies related toconstruction and maintenance use of materials
Proficiency in navigation and use of webbased systems needed to perform the job

VDOT utilizes a marketbased pay program which has been approved by DHRM. Therefore advertised rates of pay may or may not align with the Commonwealth pay bands.
