Job Description

POSITION TITLE:Teacher Interventionist

EXEMPTION STATUS:Exempt

REPORTS TO:Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:As assigned per contractschool year

Primary Purpose:

This is a State Compensatory Education funded position providing compensatory intensive and/or accelerated instruction to students identified as educationally disadvantaged. Provide students with appropriate learning activities to improve students specific skill deficits in reading and/or math. These targeted interventions are delivered in small group settings to students with similar needs and provide students additional opportunities for practice and feedback.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification
Bachelors degree
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned

Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
Knowledge of effective reading and math instruction
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

Experience
Five years experience in elementary or secondary reading and/or math instruction preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of reading and/or math interventions specified by the district and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and proficiency levels.
  • Teach the TEKS/SE as set forth by the Texas Education Agency and the district reading and/or math intervention curriculum and present the curriculum in accordance with guidelines policy and regulations.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the needs and capabilities of a students reading and/or math skills.
  • Collaborate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals objectives and methods in accordance with district requirements.
  • Analyze and disaggregate data to assist in meeting the academic needs of students.

Student Growth and Development:

  • Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
  • Assure student success as determined by the state and district curriculum and assessments.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create a learning environment that is appropriate to students physical social and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to policies and regulations.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  • Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required in a timely manner.

Communication

  • Communicate information accurately and clearly.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students parents and staff.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues students parents and community members.
  • Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the district.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsible.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement participate in training programs and remain up to date on instructional strategies with a focus on reading and/or math.
  • Keep informed of and comply with federal and state laws policies and regulations.
  • Maintain familiarity with the districts curriculum and initiatives to better serve students needs.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office and classroom equipment including computer and peripherals
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting/standing; occasional kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling twisting
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motions keyboarding use of mouse wrist flexion/extension
  • Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance 3055 pounds with assistance and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance; lifting and repositioning students
  • Environment: Work is performed in a classroom setting on campus indoors outdoors; biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress work with frequent interruptions
