Provides clerical support to the Health Information Management (HIM) Coding department by accessing retrieving and utilizing data from multiple systems to support coding workflow and processes. Meets established turnaround times of assigned tasks ensuring end users and customers receive information timely. Exports data from EPIC work queues and other sources. Compiles data into meaningful summarized information used to prioritize workflow and communicate coding related data and detail to end users.
Accountabilities
1. Monitor the discharged not final billed (DNFB) extract daily to determine if accounts can be coded and completed. Coordinate with the transcription department physicians incomplete registration and other areas as necessary.
2. Monitor unassigned deficiency reports to ensure outstanding coding queries are completed timely.
3. Generate and compile weekly reports that identify deficient documentation; Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) Manometry Fibroscan cosigns communicating deficiencies directly to the department.
4. Generate Clarity reports used for discharge disposition and DRG audits.
5. Assign accounts to work queue for DRG audits by external vendor. Distribute reviewers findings to individual coders for review.
6. Monitor 3M360 clinical documentation improvement system (CDIS) for discharged and pending swim lanes to ensure all queries are reconciled upon discharge.
7. Coordinate review of accounts held for a validation edit/hard stop working closely with coders and Revenue Management to resolve the edit/error.
8. Monitor the timely review and completion of accounts received by Utilization Review for patient class review.
9. Generate and compile weekly list of accounts requiring interim and final coding on Subacute and Skilled Nursing accounts.
10. Monitor communication work queue for timely completion of request to regroup APR DRG communicating issues to IS HIM team and PFS.
11. Review accounts for Premier reporting on a quarterly basis. Communicate with Medical Decision Support on status of files for coding.
12. Communicate with Document Imaging Team when a physician query needs to be scanned to the EHR.
13. Maintain effective communication with HIM management team to identify any trends or issues and with internal and external customers.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
High School Diploma General Education Development (GED) or Completion of a CMC Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required
Successful completion of a college level course work medical terminology course preferred
Experience
2 years of hospital clerical or general office experience required
Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Outlook and basic typing skills required
Experience in a hospital setting preferred
