Newport School District is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Special Education Teacherwith content area certification (e.g. Math English Science or Social Studies) to join our SOAR Alternative Middle/High School Program. This role is ideal for educators who are committed to individualized instruction socialemotional learning and supporting students who benefit from a nontraditional academic Responsibilities:Provide specialized instruction aligned with IEPs in an alternative general educationsetting for students in grades 612Deliver contentspecific instruction based on curriculum standards and student needsDifferentiate instruction to support diverse learners including students with emotional behavioral and learning disabilitiesCollaborate with school counselors social workers and related service providers to support student successServe as a case manager for assigned students: develop implement and monitor IEPsManage classroom behaviors using positive behavior supports and traumainformed strategiesBuild strong relationships with students and families to promote engagement and consistencySupport student transitions between the alternative setting and general education environments where applicableQualifications:Valid Teaching Certification in Special Education(K12 or appropriate grade band)Certification or eligibility in a content area(e.g. Secondary Math English Science etc.)Experience working in alternative therapeutic or behaviorfocused educational settings preferredStrong classroom management collaboration and communication skillsCommitment to building relationships with all students and their families focusing on studentcentered learningFamiliarity with IEP writing progress monitoring and special education complianceKnowledge of restorative practices traumainformed care and/or PBIS is a plus
