Why Your Role Matters:
Operational Finances key objectives are to support UNSW with core system and transactional (operational and general accounting) activities and work towards standardised processes with continual improvements in systems and process to support UNSW financial management integrity and strategy.

The Senior Business Analyst (BA) Continuous Improvement (CI) is responsible for driving the advancement standardisation and streamlining of financial processes and systems and their integration to improve operations customer experience and quality of deliverables. The focus of this role is to work closely with key stakeholders and process SMEs to evaluate endtoend financial processes understand business requirements and process variations in order to streamline and implement standardized processes and automated solutions in accordance with UNSW policies ensuring appropriate controls and compliance are in place.

The Senior Business Analyst CI reports to the Associate Director Operations & Continuous Improvement and has no direct reports.

Responsibilities Summary:

  • Perform a lead role in driving process improvements investigating analysing and documenting business processes and potential solutions that contribute to ongoing process standardisation unification and optimisation.
  • Facilitate and participate in project meetings to assist with process system and tools selection and ensure endtoend processes and impact on key stakeholders are understood and appropriately communicated in any process change.
  • Develop and document processes process flow diagrams and business cases utilising experience gained through different process mapping tools and project methodologies.
  • Identify and evaluate core business processes and facilitate identification of business issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop strong and effective working relationships with business users to identify requirements providing innovative analytical recommendations and strategic solutions.
  • Develop and lead the facilitation of workshops displaying sound accounting knowledge to identify key financial control points and providing process mapping expertise and analysis to assess business process redesign.
  • Provide mentoring training and advice to other team members and stakeholders with respect to business analysis as required.
  • Lead the development training and support in the application of tools and templates for the Continuous Improvement Framework.
  • Proactively identify and manage complex risks issues and financials ensuring appropriate solutions are in place.
  • Oversee effective communications with key stakeholders both internal and external and provide influential input with stakeholders to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Oversee the review and update of existing user process/procedure/policy documentation or create new documentation as required.

Skills and Experience Summary:

  • A combination of relevant tertiary qualification professional accredited accounting qualification and subsequent experience in business process improvement or relevant discipline.
  • Extensive experience in process improvement methodologies (eg. Lean Six Sigma BPM). Certification desirable.
  • Experience in working with teams in a crossfunctional environment to design improved operating processes
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated lateral thinker proven analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Proven facilitation and presentation skills (workshops with diverse groups including vendor technical personnel and end users).
  • Strong time management and organisational skills and deliver according to project timeframes.
  • Understanding of financial business processes within a tertiary education or similarly large environment.
  • Understanding of change management principles.
