Job Description

SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST BILINGUAL

Qualifications

a. Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology

b. PED and Board License to practice alternatives to these qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. SLPA and CFY applicants will be considered at a lower rate.

c. Multilingual/Multicultural Trained

Preferred General Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational problems.

2. Screening evaluation educational program and transition planning

3. Monitor student progress and make informed timely educational decisions.

4. Conduct speech language and hearing screenings and diagnostic evaluations to determine the need for clinical services.

5. Participate as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation review and reevaluation process.

6. Participate in the development of student IEPs.

7. Participate in the student IEP and Evaluation Meetings

8. Adhere to required program guidelines as defined by Christine Duncan as well as NM and IDEA Laws for Special Education. 9. Consult with parents teachers administrators and others concerning the needs of students and special services that are available.

10. Assist teachers in the development and implementation of curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies. 11. Refer students and their families to appropriate community agencies and services.

12. Cooperate with agencies serving students and their families.

13. Provide therapy followup and/or consultation based on student IEPs.

14. Document therapy sessions including Medicaid billing (Enter therapy notes into MaxCapture on a weekly basis)

15. Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.

16. Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.

17. Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.

18. Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.

19. Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management.

20. Assist students in developing feelings of self worth and in making social adjustments which permits them to cope with disabilities.

21. Maintain appropriate confidential records and provide timely reports.

22. Assist with public awareness activities which lead to a better understanding of the needs of exceptional children.

23. Keep abreast of new information innovative ideas and techniques.

24. See that school district and cooperative policies are observed during all activities.

25. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: 1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing. 2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move lift carry pull or push heavy objects or materials. 3. Occasional stooping bending and reaching. 4. Must work in noisy and crowded environments
