Position Summary

Are you passionate about student success and excited to be part of a creative collaborative learning environment The Centre for Entertainment Arts at Bow Valley College is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Educational Assistant to support our vibrant programs in animation film and game development


This position works directly with instructors to offer educational support to a class as a whole and provides individual and small group assistance to learners who require extra support The primary focus of this role is to assist in creating exceptional educational experiences for learners in the Centre for Entertainment Arts.


This position:


The Educational Assistant supports classroom instruction by assisting instructors and helping students engage with their learning in both laboratory and classroom settings. It involves fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment where students are encouraged to take an active role in their education. The role maintains consistent communication with instructors about individual student progress and curriculum needs while also modeling appropriate academic behaviors and attitudes. It supports continuous learner growth and achievement by providing educational assistance to students facing challenges with their course materials. Instructors are further supported through supervision of the laboratory during shortterm absences.


In addition to classroom support the role contributes to ongoing operational requirements by offering technical guidance to students in both inperson and virtual environments. It includes assisting with classroom and breakout room activities as well as helping instructors identify select create or adapt learning resources to accommodate diverse learning styles backgrounds and special needs. The role collaborates closely with Student Services to ensure learners have access to necessary support services such as Individual Accommodation Plans (IAPs) and serves as an accessible resource for students providing guidance to support their academic and community success.


The position also involves administrative responsibilities including supporting learner orientation processes and providing overviews of available services. Professionalism is demonstrated through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines adhering to schedules and coordinating meetings and resources in a timely manner. The role also requires the completion of necessary paperwork and staying current with course content in order to effectively assist students.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring 13 years of relevant experience along with demonstrable familiarity and handson expertise in their discipline. A demo reel showcasing relevant work is required and while a related degree or diploma is advantageous an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may also be considered. Strong communication organizational time management and interpersonal skills are essential as are critical thinking and problemsolving abilities.


Preferred candidates will have experience training coworkers peers or practicum students and a background working with learners at varying levelsfrom beginners to advanced students including those with interrupted formal education. The ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team is key. Candidates should possess strong presentation skills and demonstrate an understanding of different learner backgrounds abilities and learning styles. They must be able to interact in a patient and welcoming manner with culturally diverse learners those at all levels of language proficiency and individuals requiring accommodations. Effective communication and the ability to assess learners comprehension through varied methods are important. Additionally candidates should be capable of responding to learner writing both holistically and analytically listening actively to support learning and build confidence and guiding learners without completing tasks for them.


If your education was received internationally we will require you to provide an international education assessment through IQAS WES or one of the other nationally designated organizations upon hire.
