Job Description

Primary Purpose:

The Education Specialist will support Spanish HighQuality Instructional Materials (HQIM) including Open Educational Resources (OER) such as Spanish Bluebonnet for elementary Reading Language Arts (RLA) and Math. This role provides technical assistance and professional development to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in the design development implementation and evaluation of instructional activities that meet the unique needs of bilingual and Spanishspeaking student populations. The specialist will help LEAs create effective datadriven planning processes using student campus and district data to improve instruction meet accountability requirements and ensure the strategic use of HQIM.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Masters degree preferred
  • Texas teaching certification required

Skills

  • Fluent in Spanish (speaking reading and writing) required
  • Experience teaching elementary Spanish RLA and Spanish Math preferred
  • Experience teaching elementary RLA required
  • Experience teaching elementary Math preferred
  • TCMPC(TEKS RS/TCR) experience preferred
  • Texas Teaching experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to set goals and creatively problemsolve
  • Must be serviceoriented and display initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time calendar job responsibilities and travel
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team setting required
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to team/organizational goals
  • Proven ability to deliver contentspecific professional development as well as systemic best practice (e.g. campuswide/districtwide) professional development
  • Proven ability to train and coach personnel in various school roles (e.g. teachers support staff principals central office staff)



Working Conditions:

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
  • Posture: Must be physically able to tolerate prolonged sitting frequent standing; occasional bending/stooping pushing/pulling twisting and standing
  • Motion: Must be physically able to tolerate frequent standing and walking repetitive hand motions frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching occasional driving
  • Lifting: Must be physically able to tolerate regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require occasional heavy lifting and carrying 45 pounds or more)
  • Environment: Must be physically able to work inside; tolerate frequent districtwide travel and occasional statewide travel; regular exposure to noise
  • Mental Demands: Must be able to work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours on occasion
  • Regular Attendance is an essential function

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Provides effective researchbased elementary Spanish RLA and Math instructional support for campuses in Region 16 (e.g. ESCdesignated instructional coaching model professional development PLC support grading of artifacts etc.
  2. Provides elementary Spanish RLA and Math content best practices and pedagogical expertise in technical assistance and professional development to support the improvement of instructional practices for monitoring and evaluating student learning
  3. Collaborates with colleagues in and beyond the ESC to identify professional development needs through detailed data analysis and selfreflection to provide quality services to customers that positively impact student learning
  4. Sets modifies and meets short and longterm professional goals based on selfassessment reflection peer and supervisor feedback contemporary research and analysis of student learning
  5. Provides statemandated trainings if applicable
  6. Clearly articulates the work plan while adhering to all departmental protocols for workfromhome and hybrid work arrangements as applicable.
  7. Creates ongoing collegial relationships with customers
  8. Travels as a part of job responsibilities.
  9. Maintains a functioning cell phone and is accessible through this phone as deemed appropriate by the service area director. A functioning cell phone means that it is charged activated messages checked and mailbox emptied regularly.
  10. Reports for work ready to perform responsibilities.
  11. Performs duties that directly and/or indirectly impact student performance in Region 16.
  12. Maintains a professional level of confidentiality regarding all ESC matters.
  13. Supports the mission goals and objectives of the ESC strategic plan.
  14. Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the ESC safety program.
  15. Performs professional responsibilities as required by ESC policies processes and procedures.
  16. Manages time calendar and job responsibilities to meet deadlines.
  17. Meets proficiency levels of required technology skills as outlined by the supervisor.
  18. Incorporates appropriate technology in daily work and exhibits continual growth in technologies as outlined by supervisor.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.
