Job Description

This position is for theSchool Year.

TITLE: School Psychologist

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 1.0 FTE / 10month contract

SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Administrative Salary Schedule

GENERAL STATEMENT of RESPONSIBILITIES:

The School Psychologist applies ethics and standards of professional practice in the delivery of school psychological services and observes relevant laws and policies that govern practice. Participate in professional organizations and continually seek to improve professional knowledge and skills through participation in educational courses and/or conferences. Assist students towards greater realization of their potential enhances teacher effectiveness by assisting educators and staff employed by the Buckeye Union High School District in a program directed towards improving educational experiences for pupils and influencing educational thought within the educational system.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

  • Assists the staff and educators employed by the Buckeye Union High School District in a program directed toward the prevention of handicapping conditions.
  • Assumes a major role in the identification of pupils with handicapped conditions through the study of individual pupils and the appraisal of the individual pupils school program.
  • Implements individual programs of intervention through active involvement of all people who have contact with the pupil in the home school and community environment.
  • Assists the Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Director in prioritizing and bringing to attention issues of concern regarding special education services and programs to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Conducts appropriate psychoeducational evaluations and assessments of students to identify students with educational disabilities and to determine the academic social and emotional needs of individual pupils.
  • Provides a wellwritten complete and thorough MET report that follows federal and state regulations and district policies.
  • Provides conferences to parents before any implementation of evaluation at which clear procedures are made known to parents and after evaluation interprets a profile of the pupils learning characteristics current and projected potential of performance sensory and motor skills the social or adjustment factors which influence learning and an educational plan.
  • Communicates results and makes recommendations to teachers based on the findings of the evaluation through oral and written reports.
  • Participates through an interdisciplinary decisionmaking process the determination of eligibility and appropriate assignment of students for special education programs and periodically reevaluates the success of the individual education programs in meeting the needs of each of these students.
  • Supports teachers by providing informal behavioral observations in the classroom and assist teachers with classroom problems to establish effective behavior management programs. Works with staff to develop functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans.
  • Provides individual and/or group counseling to students to increase selfconcept improve communication skills and to gain insight into interpersonal relationships.
  • Helps in handling crisis situations by helping students express their feelings providing insight and support and helping them put things back into focus.
  • Advocates the protection of the human and civil rights of all pupils.
  • Provides formal and/or informal training of staff regarding special education procedures legal requirements and special education processes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in psychology
  • Valid AZ Department of Education School Psychologist Certificate
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)
  • Exhibits integrity in applying the ethics and standards of professional practice in the delivery of school psychological services including honoring confidentiality.
  • Ability to explain the educational needs of students in terms that can be easily understood by parents and other appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to maintain clear communication with administration staff parents and students as a member of various school teams

OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION:

Low risk Work is routinely performed in indoor environments including exposure to noise and being on your feet for extended periods of time. May require standing in inclement weather including summer heat.

The applicant for this position is required to:

  • regularly required to sit talk and/or hear.
  • Sit approximately 65 of the time
  • Walk and stand approximately 25 of the time
  • Kneeling/Stooping approximately 10 of the time
  • Lift on a regular basis 3050lbs
  • Use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools and/or controls; and reach with hands and arms on a regular basis.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties.
  • Verbal communicative ability may be required of public contact positions.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of secondary school education and administration.
  • Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills as well as attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to analyze data in various applications including excel.
  • Modern office technology both electrical and nonelectrical as needed to increase efficiency such as computers telephones printers scanners and copiers.
  • Psychological testing devices.
  • Communicates. Reads. Comprehends. Performs function from oral written and graphic instructions and from observation of others. Evaluates written materials.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:

EVALUATION PROCEDURE:

The evaluation is done by the ESS Director with input from the Site Principal.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

The School Psychologist reports directly to the ESS Director.
