Job Description

Job Title: School Safety and Security SpecialistFLSA Status:ExemptPay Grade: 102Work Days: 226Reports To: Director of School Safety and SecurityPrimary Purpose: The purpose is to support LEAs with School Safety and Security initiatives as required by TEC. QualificationsTo perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential School Safety Center Consultant Registered (preferred)Bachelors degree or equivalent experienceSuccessful completion of NIMS courses (FEMA IS100 IS700 IS362.A IS363 E/L0363 (preferred)Successful completion of TXSSC EOP courses (preferred)Successful completion of Behavioral Threat Assessment protocol (preferred)Special Knowledge/SkillsUp to date on all Texas School Safety legislative mandates and best practicesStrong organizational communication public relations and interpersonal skillsStrong ability to analyze assess and report findings Attention to detail and ability to communicate effectively the findings in a written reportProficiency in word processing spreadsheets presentations and state mandated school safety softwareStrong verbal communication and presentation skills to a diverse audience of stakeholdersDeep understanding of trauma informed practices and policies High level of understanding with regards to Special Education and IDEA successful experience working with local law enforcement Prior successful experience working with and in public schoolsPrior successful experience in presenting complex information to a variety of keyholdersPrior experience conducting and monitoring school Behavioral Threat Assessments and interventions (preferred)Prior experience with Standard Response Protocol and Reunification Methods (preferred)Essential Duties and Responsibilities*This job description is not intended and should not be construed to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities skills efforts or working conditions associated with this job. (ThreeYear Audits and Intruder Detection Audits)Complete detailed written reports to summarize audits and findingsSupport and assist LEAs with District Vulnerability Assessments preparationSupport and assist LEAs with creation and completion of Emergency Operation PlansProvide training and guidance to LEAs focused on new safety legislation/policyProvide Technical Assistance to LEAs as neededDesign and instruct training courses focused on school safety security and healthSupport and participate in the annual school safety and security summitCollaborate and conduct training exercises with LEAs (including drills tabletop exercises and plan reviews)Other duties as DutiesNoneEquipment/Specialized Software UsedComputers projection devices control panels in meeting rooms printers productivity software software specific to the job assignment network resources internet resources and other hardware and software necessary to perform the functions of the job effectively and Conditions (Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors)Mental: Public relations and people skills are always required work with frequent interruptions and maintain professional composure and confidentiality under : Occasional prolonged and irregular hours ability to move tables and chairs and load/unload boxes and materials. Prolonged use of a : Open cubicles/: Occasional abnormal or prolonged work hours may be required. EvaluationAnnual performance evaluation will be performed in accordance with the adopted policies of the Education Service Center Region 11. Employment in this position is contingent upon performance need and funding.
