Purpose:To provide supplementary sheltered instruction to Emergent Bilingual students (EBs) in English oral language development and in English literacy development. Provide campus leadership (coaching and modeling) in the sheltered instruction for EB students.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelors degree from a recognized accredited college or university
- Valid educator certification and highly qualified status for the position advertised
- ESL Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of English language development and literacy development
- Trained in SIOP 3 Day)
- Knowledge in developing beginner and intermediate lessons
- Effective oral and written communication skills in English
- Ability to build and maintain productive relationships among colleagues
- Knowledge of districts ESL programs
Experience:
- Three 3 years classroom teaching experience as a teacher of EBs
- Multiple grade level experience preferred
- Instructional leadership skills and experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instruction:
- Teach ESL Classes in a hybrid mode based on campus needs
- Knowledge of subject matter in assigned position
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction within the ESL Program RLA Preferred
- Ability to instruct students and foster a positive learning environment
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Program Management
- Monitor progress of English development in Emergent Bilinguals (EBs).
- Work with classroom ESL/Sheltered Core content teachers to identify students needing intervention. (Newcomers Refugees Long Term EB students)
- Provide supplementary instruction in English oracy and literacy development to EBs who are struggling (in addition to classroom firstline instruction).
- Partner with ESL teachers for planning modeling and implementing ESL instruction.
- Partner with ESL Department Chair(s) to align district and campus goals as well as provide campus and district training.
- Coordinate efforts with EBs Instructional Paraprofessional to identify EBs needing supplementary instruction/intervention
- Facilitate/Attend LPAC meetings and share progress monitoring data for students receiving ESL services
- Attend relevant district ESL meetings based on initiatives and purpose
- Attend/assist with ARD meetings of EBs participating in Special Education as needed.
- Assist with EBs registration assessments documentation and TELPAS preparations and administrations
Communication
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with principals teachers staff parents and community members.
- Use effective public relations skills necessary for the successful implementation of new programs the coordination of programs and to maintain productive relationships among colleagues.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Schedule
Minimum teacher salary is $64100
Teacher Salary Schedule
Salary is based on 187 days. If working less than 187 days the salary will be less.
