Please note: We are hiring one candidate between the Fleet Maintenance Technician I II III position and the Fleet Master Technician position. Both are closing and interviewing at the same time. Under general supervision this position supervises a team of technicians participates in field activities performs preventative maintenance and repair and is responsible for a variety of administrative tasks such as scheduling and conducting safety investigations.

*This position performs duties deemed to be safety sensitive. Employees holding this position participate in preemployment and random drug testing under Towns policies*

  • Supervises employees; conducts and oversees hiring scheduling employee feedback performance reviews staff training and development discipline/termination and employee recognition processes for assigned staff.


  • Maintains the Towns fleet of vehicles and equipment; directs staff on how to maintain and use assigned vehicles and equipment to ensure proper usage and upkeep.


  • Provides technical information as needed regarding the care and maintenance of present assets; assists in coordinating the disposal of outbound equipment and vehicles.


  • Receives new units into the fleet and adds required lighting safety equipment and markings to meet Town state and federal requirements; responsible for assisting with vehicle and equipment specifications.


  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs during the service life of the units; removes any addon items and prepares units for disposal at the end of life.


  • Evaluates accident damage and arranges any sublet repairs if necessary; assists with insurance claims warranty and recall issues that may arise.


  • Monitors and evaluates assigned teams work performance in the field; communicates special instructions and information and instructs/advises the team on proper procedures and methods.


  • Establishes uniformity and consistency in the interpretation of operational values policies and procedures; holds staff accountable for their performance in the work unit and for the quality of service they provide to the community.


  • Provides safety training and ensures adherence to safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment; ensures compliance with all Town and departmental values policies procedures and philosophies.


  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the education experience certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.


Completion of Vocational or Technical School courses in automotive and diesel equipment mechanics or heavy equipment mechanics supplemented by five 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance work and two 2 years of supervisory experience.


Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Drivers License issued by the State of Colorado for the type of vehicle or equipment operated; safe driving record and a minimum of two 2 years of driving history.


Possession of the following certifications upon hire: ASE Master Certifications in brake hydraulic and electrical systems.


Possession of or the ability to readily obtain the following within ninety 90 days of hire: CDL Class B Drivers License with tanker and air brake endorsements.

  • Knowledge of equipment materials techniques and supplies used in maintenance of fleet vehicles.
  • Knowledge of operation repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the tools equipment and technology used in law enforcement vehicles.
  • Skill in the training and supervision of personnel.
  • Skill in the use of computers and various software programs including work order and facility management processing.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to coordinate activities with other agencies organizations and individuals.
  • Ability to identify and implement risk management techniques to reduce exposure to injury damage and liability.
  • Ability to problemsolve and work much of the time without direct supervision.
  • Ability to plan and organize work independently.
  • Ability to pass a preemployment background check.

Hiring range: $31.70$38.40

Full salary range: $31.70$44.38

Position Close: 4/29/2025
Tentative First Interviews: Week of 5/5
Tentative Second Interviews/Offer: Week of 5/12
Tentative Start: 5/27 or 6/9

Tools & Equipment

Requires frequent use of hand tools electric tools gas operated tools trucks loaders backhoes trenchers snow removal equipment computer and an automobile.


Physical Demands

Requires regular sitting standing walking talking handling feeling or operating objects stooping kneeling crouching or crawling. Requires reaching with hands and arms climbing and balancing. Requires moderate physical activity with heavy lifting up to fifty 50 pounds. Requires close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision. Must communicate clearly and effectively; must understand and be understood.


Employee must be able to safely operate numerous types of vehicles and road construction equipment for long periods of time.


Environment

Work is frequently performed in outside conditions. The noise level in this environment is moderate with occasional high levels and vibrations. Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions hot or cold conditions or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high precarious employee will occasionally be required to work at heights up to forty 40 feet.



The employee will occasionally be exposed to fumes toxic or caustic chemicals odors dust mist smoke gasses poor ventilation extreme cold or extreme heat. The employee will occasionally encounter mechanical or electrical hazards.
