Job Description

General Definition of Work:

Performs intermediate professional using state competencies and licensing requirements to develop relevant curriculum; work requires providing teaching and/or training services to students; motivating students to develop skill in assigned subject matters and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed on site.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Holds an associates degree or equivalent training in the field of Small Engine & Marine Service Technology
  • Holds EETC ASE ABYC and/or Yamaha certification(s).
  • Five years of successful experience in the small engine power equipment and Marine Service Technology industry preferred (a minimum of two years of experience within the last five years)
  • Currently hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teachers License with appropriate endorsement (see 8VAC202340

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of content curriculum methods materials and equipment related to a Small Engine & Marine Service Technology.
  • Plan instructional activities and implement appropriate learning strategies utilizing a variety of resource materials multimedia and computer technology to maximize student learning
  • Demonstrate an ability to successfully differentiate instruction using a variety of teaching methods
  • Develop and implement a rigorous projectbased curriculum resulting in successful skill attainment
  • Evaluate student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner maintaining appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation
  • Demonstrate strong written verbal interpersonal and organization skills
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with parents and families
  • Participate in professional development activities school activities and staff meetings as required or assigned
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management skills in creating a classroom environment that is engaging motivating and conducive to high level student learning
  • Demonstrate effective knowledge of and compliance with policies regulations and guidelines associated with the operation and maintenance of Small Engine & Marine Service Technology equipment
  • Establish and maintain a career and technical student organization and CTE Advisory Committee
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Special Requirements:

Possession of appropriate license(s) certificate(s) and/or endorsement(s) for position as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board. Possession of an appropriate drivers license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the ability to operate motor vehicles.

Industry certification credential means a career and technical education credential that is earned by successfully completing a Virginia Board of Educationapproved industry certification examination being issued a state professional license or successfully completing an occupational competency examination.

Guidance from 22.1298.1 of the Code of Virginia: Industry Credentials for Teachers Seeking an Initial Virginia License with Endorsement(s) in an Area of Career and Technical Education: Skills and Abilities:

Comprehensive knowledge of the subject(s) taught; thorough knowledge high school or special education principles practices and procedures; thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching; thorough knowledge of school system rules regulations and procedures; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; skill in the use of personal computers and related software packages hardware and peripheral equipment; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates students and parents; ability to effectively supervise students in the lab and in the classroom; ability to prepare students for state licensing examinations.



Evaluation:

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with Bridging Communities Board of Control Policy.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert physical effort in frequent standing walking sitting and repetitive motions at the school or department work site daily but which may involve some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 25 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time standing or sitting. Sensory Requirements: Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination; Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; Most tasks require oral communications ability. Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt dust pollen odors wetness humidity rain fumes temperature and noise extremes machinery vibrations electric currents traffic hazards animals/wildlife toxic/poisonous agents violence disease or pathogenic substances. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office playground classroom light traffic).
