Essential Job Functions


WHAT WILL I DO AS AN ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN II
  • Performs technical accounting work including general accounting accounts payable and receivable cost and fund accounting budget support auditing financial reporting capital asset management and statement preparation.
  • Supervises and participates in a unit composed of accounting technical and clerical personnel involved in the daytoday operation of an accounting system which encompasses departmentwide accounting functions by handling the full accounting cycle from setting up records and balancing ledgers to making adjustments closing entries and generating reports.
  • Serves as a technical specialist in a central accounting agency with a narrow range of highly technical responsibilities such as those involving the control of major Countywide groupings of County funds budget controlling accounts or revenue accounts the consolidation of the simpler Countywide reports or the preparation of a variety of specialized required accounting reports within established content and format as needed.
  • Review trial balances of accounts and reconcile them to the AuditorControllers Countywide Accounting and Purchasing System (eCAPS) and subsidiary ledgers and trust funds; explain balancing items.
  • Supervises a unit of technical specialists engaged in examining estate accounting records for completeness accuracy and propriety; prepares interim and final accounting reports of estate financial condition for use as a basis in probate proceedings and the distribution of estate assets under probate decrees.
  • Routinely accesses and applies a personal computer using established applications including word processing spreadsheets eCAPS and accounting applications software.

REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:

To qualify for this position you must have completed 12 semester or 18 quarter units of accounting including a course inAdvanced Accounting Cost Accounting Governmental Accounting Auditing or Accounting Information Systems in an accredited college or university:

ANDEITHER OF THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS

OR
  • Option II:Two years of accounting clerical experience**.

NOTE: Lowerlevel accounting classes may be taken at a twoyear community college if the units are transferable to a fouryear college or university.

*Experience at the level of Los Angeles County Accounting Technician I is defined as performing paraprofessional accounting work under general supervision in preparing processing balancing and maintaining fiscal records requiring substantive knowledge of County and general accounting procedures.

**Accounting clerical experienceis performing accounting clerical work to maintain accounting records within a comprehensive established framework of procedures under general supervision.

***An official transcript is a transcript that bears the college seal and states official and/or copy issued by the schools Registrars Office. A printout of the transcript from the institutions website is NOT considered official and therefore cannot be accepted which could lead to your application being rejected.

Endorsement of County Qualifications:

Employees do not need to submit such verification if they hold or have held a position that regularly performs functions in alignment with the requirements.

LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out jobrelated essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS:
Physical Class II Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10pound limit and some bending stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

This examination will consist of TWO 2 parts:

Part I: Multiple choice and/or simulation assessment(s) worth 50 assessing:

Candidates may be invited to participate in both Part I and II. However only those who achieve a passing score of 70 or higher in Part I will have Part II scored.


Part II: Multiple choice and/or simulation assessment(s) worth 50 assessing:

Accounts Payable: Purchase Orders Invoices and Claims and Expense Vouchers.

Account Receivable: Invoice Processing Cheque and Cash Receipts Aging Report and Vendor Registrations

Microsoft Excel 365*: Basic Text and Cell Formatting Visual Improvements Using Functions and Formulas Printing an Excel Workbook Applying Passwords and Encryption to an Excel Workbook Conditional Formatting and Charts and Data Tables


The passing score for each weighted assessment part is 70.

Multiple choice and/or simulation assessments are not reviewable by candidates per Civil Service Rule 7.19.

Scores cannot be given over the telephone.

Transfer of test components:

If you have taken identical components recently for other exams your responses may be automatically transferred to this examination. This exam contains test components that might be used on future exams and your responses could be transferred to that exam.

Test preparation:

Eligibility Information:

The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of six 6 months.
