Job Description

JOB TITLE: PartTime Van Driver .4375 FTE/17.5 hrs a week)

REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to transport students by van/bus to and from school home and activity destinations in a safe and professional manner. Full job description available upon request.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Criminal history clearance (background and HB 2062.
  3. Three years normal driving experience.
  4. Valid Oregon Class C NonCommercial Drivers License
  5. Pass an Employment Drug & Alcohol Assessment and Pass a school bus driver physical.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Basic computer/Technology skills.
  2. Spanish speaking skills

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Drives small school vehicles (Type 10 vans and Type 20 buses) on regular routes activity trips and field trips in a variety of weather conditions.
  2. Monitors and guides student behavior enforces school and safety rules maintains order among student passengers.
  3. Makes student referrals to supervisors teachers and school administrators as needed.
  4. Performs daily vehicle checks daily bus cleaning and fuels vehicles as needed.
  5. Operates accessories such as fire extinguishers highway warning kits tire chains and first aid kits.
  6. Reads and follows maps and oral and written directions. On time for assignments and ready for work
  7. Communicates regularly with office support trainers dispatch functions regarding assignments and schedules.
  8. Interacts regularly with routing team to maintain uptodate and accurate route and student information.
  9. Makes mechanical and repair referrals and provides information to mechanic as needed.
  10. Works closely with the Special Education department to build and adapt transportation plans for students with special needs.
  11. Exercises sound judgment in varying weather conditions on various surfaces and changing traffic conditions.
  12. Maintains concentration and patience in frequently noisy conditions and challenging congested traffic environments.
  13. Completes and files reports and other required documents in an accurate and timely manner.
  14. Participates in district required meetings and training activities as required.
  15. Maintains the appropriate amount of classroom hours certifications and training to meet Oregon Department of Education driver requirements.
  16. Works well with others communicating effectively (orally and in writing) with students parents and staff.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Works a school year calendar approximately 183 days at FTE 0.4375. Based on current OSEA salary schedule and negotiated agreement salary (code 10 starting $20.50/hr. $23.64/hr. with excellent benefits including Medical Dental and Vision insurance and Oregon state retirement. Paid time off includes one sick day per month worked and two personal days prorated per school year. Starts as soon as possible. Benefit information can be found at Open until filled.
