Job Description

Summary

The English Program at Saint Xavier University invites applications for a fulltime nontenuretrack lecturer faculty position in English. The English program supports the General Education writing requirement Middle Level and Secondary Education English Language Arts majors and various minors. The area of expertise is open but we are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the General Education writing program and/or who have additional expertise in writing rhetoric Latinx literature womens literature contemporary literature or global literature.

Start date is in the Fall of 2025.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach 12 credit hours each semester in general education courses and courses related to ones area of expertise
  • Provide service to the program college and university

Teaching load is 4/4 with duties falling primarily in the General Education writing program of the English Department. The position features potential courses in the following areas: composition theory and practice including digital multi modal and other literacies; freshman composition; business and professional writing; and writing or literature courses in the universitys general education program. The ideal candidate will contribute to department planning in developing its major as well as planning for writing courses that may be of service for other programs in the university.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in English or Composition/Rhetoric. (ABD applicants will be considered contingent on evidence of a successful doctoral defense prior to August 1 2025
  • Evidence of or potential for excellent teaching including use of evidencebased best practices in teaching and learning
  • Enthusiasm toward serving a diverse student population
  • Support for the Saint Xavier University Mission to work in the United States
  • M.A. in Composition/Rhetoric or English required.
  • Ph.D. in Composition/Rhetoric or English preferred
