Job Description
Abington Friends School is an ambitious Quaker school community with a powerful academic program for children age 3 through grade 12. More information is available at Friends School seeks a skilled maintenance mechanic to join its team of full time yearround staff. The ideal candidate would be proficient in one or more of the following trades: electrical plumbing or HVAC. This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a stable friendly work environment.
Essential Functions
Independently and as part of a team performs a variety of maintenance activities (i.e. plumbing electrical and HVAC).
- Operates various electric gas and manually powered tools and equipment i.e. saws air compressors blowers drills etc.
- Performs regular preventive maintenance and makes repairs within the scope of abilities.
- Assists with building maintenance and repairs as required.
- Performs cleanup and worksite restoration activities.
- Performs grounds maintenance activities including snow removal
- Responds to and takes appropriate actions in the event of emergency or critical incidents to resolve confine or prevent potentially injurious or hazardous conditions.
- Requests supplies as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is preferred as is relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated expert proficiency in one of the skilled trades
- Ability to operate standard maintenancerelated equipment.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding and to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to discern which people may need immediate assistance and to act accordingly.
- Valid drivers license.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment.
- Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours to support special school events.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work including climbing balancing stooping kneeling crouching and crawling lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds; may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Tasks are regularly performed with potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as strong odors fumes dusts wetness humidity machinery vibrations temperature and noise extremes disease pathogenic substances and toxic/poisonous agents.
