Job Description

Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of the PBIC Grant at Bloomfield College of Montclair State University the Academic & Career Coach plays a vital role in supporting student success programming. The Academic & Career Coach is responsible for leading the design implementation and of institutionwide academic success and intervention strategies catered to the diverse needs of undergraduate students. The focus is on creating a hightouch retention outreach framework specifically tailored to support undergraduate Black male students.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a comprehensive hightouch retention outreach framework centered on academiccoaching offering personalized support to designated student cohorts.

  • Design and execute retention programs and drive outreach initiatives to bolster studentsuccess.

  • Monitor the progression of the student body towards degree completion and graduationdevise targeted interventions to enhance retention and graduation rates.

  • Conduct thorough research of student development.

  • Tracking student progress to better prepare them for career opportunities and internships.

  • Assist the Program Director with developing firstgeneration student services events and initiatives.

  • Design postadmission student success initiatives and retention services customtailored toatrisk student populations.

  • Collaborate with academic departments and faculty to identify atrisk students and implementproactive support measures.

  • Facilitate workshops seminars and training sessions aimed at improving academic skills timemanagement and study habits for students.

  • Provide oneonone coaching sessions to students focusing on academic goalsettingmotivation and overcoming challenges.

  • Coordinate with other student support services such as advising and counseling to ensure aholistic approach to student success.

  • Participate in campuswide committees and initiatives related to student retention and success.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of early alert systems to identify and supportstudents who may be at risk of academic failure.

  • Create host and assist career readiness workshops and seminars for undergraduatestudents.

  • Connecting students to information and resources for internship and career transitioning.

  • Research plan and facilitate trips designed to expose students to various industries andcareer paths.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Management retains the right to change or add job duties at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.

  • A minimum of one year of experience in providing academic support to collegelevel students.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in working with diverse and atrisk populations in higher educationparticularly firstgeneration black males.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and technical aptitude.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse student body and professional staff.

  • Familiarity with technology platforms such as Colleague Canvas Starfish EAB Navigate andonline survey software.

PREFERRED:

  • Masters Degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Proficiency in a second language.

  • Demonstrates exemplary leadership and interperson.
