The Opportunity:
The Academic Health Sciences Center (AHSC) is seeking a Dental Assistant I who will assist the dentist or dental hygienist with all phases of dentistry as allowed within the lawful scope in addition to positioning and exposing dental radiographs.
Responsibilities:
Provides chairside dental assistance by assisting licensed dental staff during examinations and treatment procedures in all dental disciplines including restorative endodontist periodontal oral surgery prosthodontics orthodontics and oral medicine.
Reviews updates and records medical history on all patients. Takes and records pain scale chief complaint blood pressure and pulse for patients electronic and witnesses appropriate Consent forms and Treatment plans.
Cleans and sterilizes instruments. Organizes and stores sterilized items and supplies. Assembles and sets up instrument trays and cassettes. Sets up operatories prior to treatment. Cleans and disinfects operatories after treatment. Ensures equipment is in proper working order.
Assists in mixing materials taking and pouring impressions preparing and trimming models and fabricating whitening trays occlusal guards and temporary crowns.
Performs various xray procedures as prescribed by providers.
Facilitates referrals to appropriate specialists including forms and xray records.
Assists with the maintenance of Safety logs OSHA logs MSDS log inventory logs in accordance with the Health Services Risk Manager in order to comply with AAAHC accreditation. Maintains an awareness of inventory and supplies. Assists with maintenance records for dental equipment.
Orients patient with various treatment procedures treatment plans changes in treatment questions pertaining to treatment and postop instructions. Provides patient education in the form of verbal instruction or ADA patient videos.
Performs clerical duties related to the Dental Center such as scheduling appointments dental benefit inquiries answering phones and various Front Desk duties. Perform any other necessary duties as directed. Timely completion of all required university AHSC and SHS trainings.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 0 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification.
Florida Dental Radiographer certification.
Experience working in a dental clinic.
Experience working with electronic health record systems.
Demonstrated excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in a college health setting.
