Our District:

The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2000 students enrolled K12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools a middle school a high school an alternative high school and a K12 virtual academy; and the SnoIsle Skills Center a cooperative vocational technical school.

Our Community:

Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our backyard is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan Startup and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

In support of the Sultan School District goals and strategic plan the Executive Director of Finance plans organizes and directs the financial business for the school district while promoting the overall effectiveness of the school system. This is carried out with full understanding by the Executive Director that the Sultan School District exists to cause student learning and growth within the basic education program. The Executive Director oversees the development and implementation of the districts business and financial services including the budget and risk management program. This position performs such duties and supervises employees as arenecessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Additionally this position is responsible for oversight of the areas of human resources facilities management nutrition services transportation safety and security and technology while working with and providing leadership to each departments director. The Executive Director serves on the Superintendents Cabinet and Leadership Team. The executive director willperform other organizationally related tasks as directed by the Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Takes ownership of understanding and contributing to the Sultan School Districts goals mission and strategic plan. Builds a team that is committed to carrying out this belief.
  2. Develops systems that are timely predictable and transparent so other areas of the organization can focus on the goals mission and strategic plan.
  3. Collaborate with the Superintendents Office schools and departments regarding business office procedures helping create accurate dependable and transparent systems of financial operation.
  4. Oversees the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and schedules for all funds: general fund ASB fund capital projects Fund debt service fund transportation vehicle fund and other funds as necessary and directed by the superintendent.
  5. Continually seeks out innovative and contemporary practices that support our commitment to student success staff support and community transparency.
  6. Lead the department in growing and sustaining a responsive and positive culture that understand the connection between the district office to student success in the classroom.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  1. Is a key member of district bargaining efforts joining Human Resources to emphasize understanding and importance of all parties while aligning with the school boards fiscal responsibility and goals.
  2. Serves as the lead in working with the Washington State Auditors office to schedule and fulfill auditing compliance.
  3. Actively facilities collaborative discussions with key stakeholder groups including the superintendent school board staff students and community on a range of issues including levy and bond measures which ensures a clear understanding of the issues and how they align with the district goals mission and vision.
  4. Serves as the point of contact and compliance officer for Title IX and Harassment Intimidation and Bullying Complaints.
  5. Leads and conducts comprehensive reviews and analyses of district financial structures including accounts payable benefits payroll and others to monitor internal controls to ensure the accuracy reliability and timeliness of district financial actions and alignment with budget expectations.
  6. Develop systems that assist coordinate and oversee human resources to ensure that the S275 salary compliance school staffing models agency staff and grant charges are accurate.
  7. Interpret rules regulations and laws that are applicable to school district accounting. Lead the development and update of school district fiscal policy and procedure to align compliance with current state and federal law.
  8. Continue migration of district software to updated platforms that align district financial operations to current accounting and fiscal management methods.
  9. Build capacity of staff through professional development and coaching.
  10. Value staff student parent and community input to create a positive respectful and welcoming department.

MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires concentration and adaptability with multiple needs being present.
  • Protects confidentiality of district materials respects privacy rights of participants and school district personnel.
  • Required to adapt to shifting priorities and to frequently rechannel work efforts.
  • Required to perform accurate and precise assignments at times under strict and challenging deadlines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires focus for extended periods of time.
  • Required to lift carry and move packages and boxes that may weigh up to fiftyfive 55 pounds without assistance (sometimes up and down stairs).

POSITION MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or business administration training skills and experience necessary to carry out the assignment.
  • Minimum of three years of increasingly responsible experience in business and finance.
  • Previous experience in K12 schools and finance is preferred.
  • Requires successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprinting and background clearance.

Reporting Relationship:

Reports to and is evaluated by the Superintendent.

EDUCATION LICENSE CERTIFICATION FORMAL TRAINING:

  • Minimum of BA/BS
  • Experience dealing with young children and families.
  • Washington State Drivers License
  • Bilingual is preferred but not required.

Immigration Reform and Control Act Requirement:

Disclosure Statement and Background Check

Pursuant to Chapter 43.43 Washington Laws of 1990 the recommended applicant will be required to complete a disclosure form indicating whether he/she has been convicted of crimes against persons listed in the law. In addition a background check based on fingerprints will be requested from the Washington State Patrol.
