Position Summary
A Safenest Camp Hope Volunteer Counselor plays a key role in providing a safe supportive and enriching camp experience for youth facing challenges. Counselors are responsible for supervising a small group of campers in a cabin or tent setting leading engaging activities facilitating curriculumbased discussions and ensuring their campers wellbeing. Counselors act as positive role models while contributing to the therapeutic and empowering environment fostered by the Safenest Camp Hope program. Additionally the Camp Hope Volunteer Counselor must possess good communication and organizational skills and must have the ability to maintain control of the area even when distracted by noise or activity and work with a diverse group of people.
Primary Responsibilities
- Direct Camper Supervision:Live in a cabin or tent with a small group of campers throughout the week overseeing daily routines and ensuring safety comfort and adherence to camp guidelines.
- Leading Cabin Time Activities:Plan and lead engaging activities within the cabin including structured discussions recreational games and teambuilding exercises.
- Facilitating CurriculumFocused Conversations:Conduct meaningful discussions based on Safenest Camp Hopes curriculum addressing personal challenges and fostering positive growth.
- CoCounseling:Collaborate with a cocounselor to provide comprehensive support creating a nurturing and cohesive cabin environment.
- Positive Role Modeling:Exhibit healthy behaviors positive attitudes and appropriate social skills to inspire and guide campers.
- Observing and Reporting:Monitor camper behavior recognize potential issues and communicate concerns promptly to the camp leadership team.
- Teamwork:Collaborate with fellow counselors and staff to build a supportive and unified camp community.

Requirements
- Must be able to pass a Background check and CANS.
- Must complete 101 training modules on Domestic Violence Sexual Violence and Human Trafficking.
- Must complete mandatory camp specific training.
- Ability to develop positive relationships with people from different backgrounds.

- Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions.

- Sounds and noise levels may vary depending on activities.

- Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 25 lbs.
