Job Duties
VDOTs burg District Cluster Springs Area Headquarters is looking for a highly skilled Operator Maintenance to drive improve and maintain infrastructure for the Virginia Department of Transportation! As the successful candidate you will perform a combination of skilled equipment operations preventive maintenance and heavy manual labor while conducting roadway maintenance activities. This position is considered essential.

In addition to a comprehensive compensation and benefits package a $3000 signon bonus is available for qualified candidates who have a current CDL. Current VDOT employees are not eligible for the signon bonus.

VDOT utilizes a market based pay program which has been approved by DHRM. Therefore
advertised rates of pay may or may not align with the Commonwealth pay bands.
VDOT is an emergency response agency therefore you will work outside of normal work hours during emergency operations when services are needed.

NOTE: All drivers hired without a valid CDL in hand are required to obtain their CDL within 11 months of their hire date. You cannot operate commercial motor vehicles prior to receiving the necessary licensure and medical certification. Effective February 7 2022 new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations require entrylevel drivers (drivers who are seeking to take the skills test in order to obtain a CDL for the first time upgrade their CDL to a Class A from a Class B or take the knowledge test to obtain a hazardous materials endorsement for the first time) to complete FMCSA approved EntryLevel Driving (ELD) Training before the Department of Motor Vehicles can grant the requested CDL or endorsement. The course is comprised of 160 hours on average of training.
