Reporting to the Director of Bridge Engineering the Bridge Planning Specialist leads development of standards guidelines and development of tools relating to bridge conceptual design. Bridge conceptual design involves the determination of the optimal location size and geometry of new bridges with a focus on ensuring a sustainable and cost effective bridge design.
The position:
1. Develop and Maintain Bridge Conceptual Design Standards
- Lead the creation and maintenance of bridge design guidelines tools and best practices.
- Ensure integration of bridge requirements into highway planning and design.
- Collaborate with regulatory authorities and oversee training on bridge planning tools.
2. Provide Expert Technical Advice
- Advise on bridge design hydrotechnical parameters and regulatory issues.
- Support infrastructure resiliency efforts and integration of bridge needs into highway plans.
3. Oversee Inspection & Maintenance Programs
- Manage the Pier Scour Inspection and River Protection Works Inspection programs and lead the subsequent engineering assessments of the inspection results.
- Utilize GIS analysis to monitor stream migration and recommend protective measures.
4. Supervise Bridge Planning Team
- Assign tasks mentor staff and conduct performance reviews.
- Guide strategic planning and team contributions to departmental goals.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support staff development

This position is located at the Twin Atria Building 4999 98 Ave Edmonton AB T6B 2X3.
- Traveling will consist of 5 of the work schedule.
- Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
