ABOUT WAYSIDE SCHOOLS:Wayside Schools is an openenrollment tuitionfree PreK312thgrade public charter school network that provides over 2200 scholars across its four South Austin campuses with a rigorous International Baccalaureate education. Job Goal:
The purpose of the Dyslexia Teacher position is to provideidentified students with an appropriate scientificallybased structured sequential systematic and multisensory reading program; Provide academic intervention support and requisite progress monitoring/documentation for students experiencing difficulty in attaining mastery of reading and other content area subject matter.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree/Masters Degree in Education or related field (required)
  • Valid Texas teaching certification (required)
  • Specific Dyslexia training (preferred)
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience with students with learning difference within various multicultural settings particularly with reading disabilities
  • Knowledge of services under Federal Law PLand Texas Education Code 38.003 Dyslexia and Related Disorders

Skill Requirements:
This position requires a working knowledge about curriculum and instruction. Incumbent should have experience in urban schools with diverse student populations. Incumbent must have experience with delivery of professional development in literacy and dyslexia intervention and/or other scientificallybased reading research programming. Incumbent must have excellent written and oral communication skills the ability to collaboratively guide other professionals and to work cooperatively with external partners in the community. Knowledge of a studentfocused coaching model is preferred.
This position requires extensive personal experience and knowledge of best practices for students with disabilities specifically students with reading disorders/dyslexia. Incumbent must have theability to communicate effectively using a variety of media work with others as a team organize and maintain records and manage time and resources effectively and efficiently. This position requires the ability to guide lead and involve other professionals to provide quality programs. Incumbent must be able to work cooperatively and positively with adults and children and have extensive personal experience and knowledge of best educational practices in working with students with disabilities. Incumbent must have knowledge of researchbased instructional practices for reading specifically for dyslexia. Employees in this position must be able to read write and speak/communicate in English in order to receive and to provide workrelated information in a timely manner to other employees supervisors principals school personnel volunteers and where appropriate visitors and students.

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Assist with professional development for teachers in the areas of 504/Dyslexia compliance best instructional practices differentiating instruction for students with learning differences and other areas as needed.
  • Support campuses with dyslexia interventions and assist teachers in developing strategies to accommodate student needs more effectively.
  • Provide forums for parents to receive information and support for their children.
  • Collaborate with members of other district teams that interface with dyslexic students.
  • Respond promptly to correspondence and phone calls from students parents administrators and teachers relating to services for students with identified with dyslexia and related disorders.
  • Attend campus 504 meetings as requested.
  • Assist in helping campuses stay in compliance with Section 504 of the ADAAA and the Texas Dyslexia Mandate.
  • Physical Effort and Work Environment:
  • Services are generally provided within a standard classroom environment.
  • Some movement throughout the classroom is generally necessary to facilitate learning (e.g. standing walking stooping bending sitting and/or kneeling).
  • Light lifting of materials and other objects associated with a classroom environment is required (e.g. books teaching aids up to approximately 20 40 lbs..
  • Candidate should be willing to contribute directly or indirectly to the development of children both inside and outside the classroom which may include working hours in addition to the regular school day.
  • Regular attendance is required for this position.

Personal Work Relationships:
  • Candidate receives administrative supervision and is typically evaluated formally one time per year.
  • It is expected that less experienced candidates will receive additional guidance on instructional matters and that those with more experience will serve as mentors providing suggestions guidance and assistance as appropriate or necessary.
  • It is expected that some candidates will be more involved in planning and coordinating departmental activities. Supervisor may provide detailed instruction regarding changes in policies procedures or laws or in reference to unusual circumstances or problems.
  • Candidate has significant contact with students parents and other school staff to provide instruction offer guidance exchange information and develop social skills of students.
  • Candidate may also maintain contacts within the community to enrich the content of materials and utilize additional instructional methodologies (e.g. take field trips invite guest speakers.
