Job Description

The approximate duration of this temporary assignment is 3 months

The Registered Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting the Orthodontic faculty and residents with patient care.
The assistant is responsible of the set up and cleaning up of the dental operatories taking dental impressions
(alignate and digital) taking xrays uploading records sterilizing instruments monitoring supplies inventory and
assisting front desk with patient flow in clinic.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical activities:

  • Assist Orthodontic residents and faculty with patient care including chairside assisting (exams and orthodontic procedures).
  • Assist residents and faculty with photography cementation of bands and brackets debanding and impressions.
  • Perform orthodontic procedures under the scope of RDA licensure.
  • Assist faculty with tracking scans and impressions taken to be sent to lab.
  • Ensure that all instrumentation is clean and sterilized according to policies and procedures set by the practice.
  • Setup and breakdown operatories according to policies and procedures.
  • Check patient schedule 2 weeks ahead and ensure lab cases are received prior to patient arrivals.
  • Followup on lab cases including Invisalign and communicate with front desk if rescheduling of appointment is needed two weeks in advance.
  • Prepare operatories for examinations and orthodontic procedures.
  • Set up instrument trays as appropriate for each procedure.
  • Ensure operatories are well stocked and refill supplies as needed.
  • Maintain lab areas pour models and construct essix retainers.
  • Maintain cleanliness in operatories stock room and laboratory.
  • Order supplies as needed.
  • Perform equipment maintenance as scheduled and report any equipment failures.
  • Upload records including photos scans and Xrays to imaging software and aligner software to assist faculty in faculty clinic; download photos scans and Xrays for patient record release to front desk.
  • Engage in activities that support School of Dentistry True North Strategic vision of innovations including training and staying up to date with new equipment.

Radiology:

  • Take periapical full mouth panoramic and cephalometric radiographs 3D CBCT.
  • Perform general radiology procedures including patient safety exposure uploading and downloading images.
  • Maintain radiology equipment in proper working order.

Other Duties:

  • Other duties as required by management of the clinic.
  • Assist the front desk with patient flow in the clinic.
  • Maintain interpersonal relationships in a professional manner under UCSF Pride Values

of a program in dental assistance

  • Current RDA license
  • California Xray safety certification
  • Experience working in an orthodontic dental office as an RDA for 2 years
  • Basic computer skills
  • Rev. 5/28/2023 Experience taking xrays on children and adults
  • CPR certification
  • Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
  • Familiar with infection control policies and procedures HIPAA
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operation of dental equipment and instruments
  • Demonstrated excellence in reliability and attendance
  • Able to multitask in fastpaced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment and in a group setting
