This position is categorized as Open to Agency Only; this position is only open to current UConn NP2 employees.

UConns Facilities Operations Department has a job opening for a Maintenance Supervisor 2 (Automotive) position within the Motor Pool Shop. This is a permanent fulltime 1st shift position with a work schedule of Monday Friday 7:00 a.m. 3:30 p.m. 40 hours per week with an unpaid half an hour for lunch. The hourly rate of pay will be determined based on the employees current Step and Pay Plan.

This position is categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff. Must be willing to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that affect campus operations. Applicants must also be willing to respond to emergencies on overtime (nights weekends holidays and weather/storm related events).

Please note that Facilities Operations NP2 employees may also be required to perform job duties as assigned at any of the Regional Campuses.

This position is categorized as Open to Agency Only. Current qualified UConn NP2 employees will be considered for this position. This position requires considerable knowledge of modern methods and equipment involved in the automotive trade.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS:

This class is accountable for supervising a large crew 6 or more) of highly skilled trades workers and lowerlevel employees.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

At UConn the Maintenance Supervisor 2 (Automotive) position within the Motor Pool Shop of the Facilities Operations Department is responsible for supervising a crew of highly skilled trade workers at the QCW level along with Skilled Trades Apprentices and student labor apprentices. This position is responsible for coordinating the daily work assignments for employees; scheduling and assigning work to staff estimating labor and material for jobs including writing quotes; providing information to supervisors and managers on the progress of jobs in the shop; assisting employees with troubleshooting work and resolving issues; working with the manager to address disciplinary actions as required; monitoring the progress of job assignments through completion; assisting with the planning preparation and coverage for large snow/weather related events; establishing good customer relations/communication; reviewing/approving timesheets in CORECT and completing overtime equalization rosters; completing administrative computer work and paperwork as required; working with the Facilities Operations Business Services Staff to coordinate Environmental Health & Safety and UConn training for employees.

KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Six 6 years of experience in the trade area indicated by the parenthetical title.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

Three 3 years of the General Experience must have included performing highly skilled duties in the trade area indicated by the parenthetical title.

NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a Qualified Craft Worker.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience serving in a leadership capacity.
  2. Verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills.
  3. Experience using computer software such as AiM HuskyBuy Microsoft Excel Word Outlook and/or Kuali Financial System (KFS) is desired.
  4. Demonstrated experience in the use of computerized maintenance management software (CMMS).
  5. Demonstrated experience in the use of Fleet Focus to order parts from Columbia Ford Gates GMC Putnam Chrysler; ALDATA for looking up vehicle repair procedures; SnapOn scan tool Cummins software NAPA PRO LINK.
  6. Knowledge of management and removal of regulated materials as well as knowledge of applicable laws regulations nationally recognized standards and guidelines as related to occupational safety and health is desired.
  7. Experience using an IPad or similar technology.
  8. Knowledgeable of the NP2 contract and University policies and procedures.
  9. Demonstrated experience in the supervision of employees in various job classifications such as student labor apprentices skilled trades apprentices and QCWs.
  10. Experience participating in job searches as a member of the hiring team.
  11. Experience working with university purchasing systems such as Fastenal and HuskyBuy.
  12. Experience working with the university payroll system CORECT.
