The City of Edmonton is seeking a highly skilled and detailoriented Assessment Review Board Officer to provide advanced case management and secretariat support to the Assessment Review Board (ARB) a quasijudicial tribunal that renders binding decisions reviewable by the Court of Queens Bench. In this role you will work in a heavily regulated environment under tight and demanding timelines ensuring that the ARB and its members adhere to applicable legislation and apply policies and procedures in accordance with natural justice and fairness to all parties. You will enable effective case management by attending hearings identifying and resolving issues providing procedural advice to members facilitating decision meetings and reviewing decisions to ensure they are legal and wellreasoned. Additionally you will provide strategic advice identify best practices and contribute to the operations and administration of the Board through member training project leadership and research.
What will you do
- Provide advanced case management and secretariat support to the Assessment Review Board (ARB)
- Work in a heavily regulated environment under tight and demanding timelines
- Ensure that the ARB and its members adhere to the applicable legislation and apply policies and procedures in accordance with natural justice and fairness to all parties
- Enable effective case management by attending hearings identifying and resolving issues giving procedural advice to the members facilitating decision meetings as required and reviewing decisions to ensure that they are legal and well reasoned
- Support the operations and administration of the Board by providing strategic advice identifying best practices in administrative law and enhancements to the policies and procedures
- Plan and deliver member training lead projects and conduct research as required
- A postsecondary degree in arts law or related field.Specific knowledge of administrative law and natural justice
- Minimum of 4 years experience in a legal or quasijudicial setting
- Experience with an emphasis on advising Board members and reviewing/writing Board decisions
Assets:
- Provincially mandated ARB Clerk training
- Certificate in Tribunal Administrative Justice
- Experience working with the Municipal Government Act
- Experience with Matters Relating to Assessment Complaints Regulation
- Experience with the Matters Relating to Assessment and Taxation Regulation
- Experience with the City of Edmonton Charter Regulation
- Experience with the City of Edmonton Assessment Review Board Bylaw

Work Environment:
- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
