Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION Success Coach
POSITION TITLE: Student Success Coach
REPORTS TO: Provost
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Student Success Coach will mentor assist and provide services to students to enable them to persist in college and obtain a degree. Success coaches support and advise students as they fulfill their engagement degree requirements. Each success coach also has oversight of an area of the Success Center such as study tables test center disability accommodations study skill courses and tutoring. Success coaches are members of the college retention team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of Provost the Student Success Coach maintains responsibilities in the following areas:
  • Teaching responsibility for development writing courses and writing tutors.
  • Work with students to craft a 4year course and career plan to determine priorities for students and their resource needs. Direct students to resources or directly contact resources for students.
  • Establish regular meetings with students to discuss progress toward course and career goals outlined in plan. Provide retention alerts as appropriate. Counsel/coach students on study habits and career planning.
  • Respond to campus retention alerts maintaining awareness of atrisk students status and serving as an oncampus expert on retention issues.
  • Support student success team initiatives
  • Track engagement as required by the Colleges degree requirements and policies including events centered around financial literacy diversity inclusion and career building skills.
  • Use judgement and discretion to escalate for additional support in crisis intervention.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records and data as required by laws and College policies.
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing student behavior.
  • Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serves on various college committees as assigned.
  • Attends evening and weekend College functions as required.
  • Attends professional development trainings conferences etc. as applicable.
  • Assists with implementation of IDS 100 Skills for College and/or ECC101 first year seminar course including assisting the instructor with course material and monitoring study sessions and meeting with students during class.
  • Assists with test center and provides needed accommodations to students.
  • Assists with hiring and managing tutors.
  • Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:
None
EDUCATION:
Essential: Masters degree
Preferred: Degree in English with writing emphasis
EXPERIENCE:
Essential: Minimum two 2)years experience in a professional setting (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Proficiency with computers Microsoft Office suite.
Preferred: Experience with Canvas or other Learning Management Systems (LMS)

  • Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships
  • Organize plan and prioritize work
  • Proactively look for ways to support students and help them succeed.
  • Deliver a high level of customer service (even when applying consequences)
  • Actively listen to students and provide encouragement and guidance
  • Manage emotions in confrontational interactions
  • Model professionalism for students
  • Use MS Office suite and SONIS products to manage records assessment and documentation of work

WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop kneel crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. While performing the duties of this job the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Normal workdays are Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 5:00PM including one hour allocated for lunch. Some flexibility for evening or weekend hours is required.
TARGET SALARY RANGE: $36000 to $40000 annually
