The University of Chicagos Department of Surgery Section of Surgical Research Services is searching for a fulltime faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointee will provide trauma and reconstructive surgery care as part of their clinical duties. Additional clinical responsibilities will include supporting the Trauma Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care service lines. The appointee will also be obligated to develop and participate in basic translational science with the opportunity to work across interdisciplinary teams and work in an ongoing bench laboratory focused on trauma/critical care sepsis ischemia/reperfusion and microbiome sciences. The laboratory will be a joint effort between the sections of trauma/critical care surgery vascular surgery and the section of surgical research. There will be a major percent effort to develop as an independent investigator in the field of the biology of trauma/critical care.
Other duties include teaching and supervision of trainees and students and scholarly activity. Compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) is dependent upon qualifications.
Prior to the start of employment qualified applicants must: 1 have a medical doctorate or equivalent 2 hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the States of Illinois and Indiana 3 have completed an accredited fellowship or equivalent training in trauma/critical care and 4 have extensive experience as a basic translational investigator with extra time in training (i.e. PhD or equivalent) so as to mature as a leader in surgical research in this field.
