Job Summary
The Tech Coordinator works with the operations team to manage print traffic captioning film ratings and video exhibition needs for the Vancouver Queer Film Festival. This role also acts as a projectionist and technician during the festival.
This is a contract position for 30 hours per week starting on June 3 2025 and ending on September 26 2025.
Compensation
This position will start at a salary/hourly wage of $25.86. This compensation is not negotiable as it reflects the current budget.

Reporting
Reports to Piper Fawkes (they/them) Operations & Finance Director
Responsibilities
Accurately track exhibition materials and all print traffic details
Manage the tech component of entries platform to receive exhibition files from filmmakers/distributors
Prepare exhibition copy including verifying captions converting film files preparing backup formats uploading to streaming platforms for online screenings preparing hard drives for venues etc.
Oversee the creation of captioned film files (as required) and conduct quality assurance on captioned files (timing spelling etc.
Oversee quality assurance testing of all exhibition formats
Manage film classification requests and approvals.
Prepare and test all DCP playlists and QLab playlists
Visit all venues for screening tests before the festival
Troubleshoot any exhibition technical issues with venue staff or online hosting company (Cinesend)
Support contract projectionists
Qualifications
Knowledge Skills Abilities
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in recording tracking and issuing information.
Knowledge of new film exhibition platforms mediums and storytelling formats.
Strong problemsolving and empathy skills.
Proactive and comfortable with selfdirecting work and working with minimal direction yet able to speak up and ask for help when needed.
Works well on a team and is a team player as well as comfortable working on their own.
Deadlinedriven capable of thriving in a fastpaced environment managing multiple important deadlines and time constraints effectively.
Proficient skills with MS Office Suite and Google Suite.
Training and Experience
Experience with film projection film postproduction or video editing strongly preferred
Experience working in customer service or technical support
Experience working with intersectional queer communities.
An interest and experience in working towards social justice.
A valid BC drivers license is helpful but not required for this position.

Working Conditions
Schedule
Standard hours are based on a 7.5hour work day. Expected evening/weekend commitments as follows:
2 events per month outside of the festival
During the Festival all staff are required to be available for 10 of the 11 days
Evening and weekend work is reflected in Out On Screens banked hour system; staff can take time in lieu to ensure a balanced work week with supervisor approval
Physical Workspace
Out On Screen is currently working in a hybrid format with selective workfromhome supports in place
Our office is located in Chinatown:
Hotdesking via booking app
Elevators up to unit
2 singlestall enclosed ungendered washrooms on the same floor as our office
All doors are unpowered and a minimum of 30 wide
Our office is scentreduced but communal spaces are not
A communicable disease plan in place and is available upon request
Secure bike parking is available on site
The Vancouver Queer Film Festival will screen films inperson at event venues and cinemas throughout Vancouver BC.
These venues have a wide variety of accessibility features all of which can be found on our website
Vacation/Time Off
4 additional pay in lieu of vacation
Sixteen 16 paid health and wellness days each year prorated for hours worked

A first round of interviews will be held via Zoom
Interviews are usually 60 minutes in length and will be held roughly between April 28 2025 and May 9 2025
Applicant updates will be provided 1 week after interviews
Hiring decisions are made roughly a week after all interviews are complete
Ideal start is June 3 2025 pending the availability of the candidate
