Purpose:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Santa Clara University invites applications for a tenuretrack professor starting in theacademic year. Electric power systems and sustainable energy are strategic growth areas for the ECE department. To complement the expertise of current faculty address areas of strong interest to students and enhance collaboration opportunities with local industries in Silicon Valley the department is interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: power systems power electronics electric drives and sustainable energy. Candidates should have an articulated plan for engaging with a diverse student body through teaching research service and mentorship. The department welcomes candidates with strong research experience and potential the ability to collaborate with faculty across disciplines and a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research teaching and service.

The ideal candidate will be able to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in areas related to power systems including lower division courses of a fundamental nature and will be enthusiastic about curriculum innovation and student engagement. Candidates should have academic industry or other research experience and should be able to articulate plans for future impactful research in their areas of interest. Candidates should create partnerships and research collaborations with industry national laboratories and government. In addition to teaching and research contributions Santa Clara University is committed to hiring faculty eager to promote the universitys values of diversity equity and inclusion at the department and university levels.

The new professor will join the SCU ECE faculty at a time of significant opportunity for research laboratory establishment and programmatic development. Forwardlooking research will be supported as the School of Engineering has moved into the newly constructed stateoftheart 300000 square foot Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation in Fall of 2021. It houses engineering and science departments research laboratories teaching laboratories and versatile spaces facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration and involvement in humanitarian engineering. In addition the new faculty member will have the flexibility and resources to shape the future of research at Santa Clara University.

Basic Qualifications

An earned Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering or a closely related field

A demonstrated potential for high quality research

A commitment and demonstrated potential to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and to engage in curriculum development

A commitment to contribute to a diverse and inclusive academic culture

Responsibilities

Developing a productive research program that engages students and produces highquality publications.

Teaching upper division undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of specialization as well as lower division fundamental courses; curriculum development at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Service to the Department School University and profession.

January 1st 2025
