Job Description

Primary Responsibilities
The Borderlands Research Institute BRI at Sul Ross State University is hiring a tenuretrack Assistant or Associate Professor in Wildlife Population Dynamics with an anticipated start in Fall 2025. We seek a scholar with expertise in wildlife population dynamics particularly in the context of species restoration and management within arid ecosystems. This position will be critical in advancing our understanding of how restoration practices impact species recovery and longterm population health. The successful candidate will develop an independent research program focused on wildlife population dynamics specifically for species targeted for restoration and conservation. This role will include designing studies to assess population trends analyzing factors influencing population viability and applying quantitative approaches to model and predict management outcomes for key wildlife species. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support BRls mission contributing innovative research to wildlife conservation and management. Develop and implement research on wildlife population dynamics with applications for species restoration and management particularly in arid ecosystems. Engage with key species of interest including game and nongame species. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students guiding their research and academic development in population ecology and conservation. Secure external funding to support research and contribute to grantwriting efforts. Publish research findings in highimpact peerreviewed scientific journals contributing to population dynamics and species restoration. Commitment to teaching student mentorship and program development. The individual hired for this position will be responsible for teaching several key courses in the Natural Resource Management and Wildlife programs including: Population Dynamics Agricultural Statistics Ecological Modeling This position is security sensitive.
