Marana is one of the fastestgrowing communities in Southern Arizona located approximately 20 minutes northwest of downtown Tucson and 75 minutes southeast of Phoenix. The Town of Marana is seeking a Judge Pro Tempore to work in the Magistrate Court Department. The ideal individual should have a strong sense of public service high level of civic responsibility the ability to evaluate facts and legal arguments fairly and impartially excellent people skills and the ability to work well with current staff. This position serves on an intermittent oncall asneeded basis with no guaranteed minimum number of hours.
Compensation: $150 for 1/2 day session and $300 for full day sessions. If less than half day session rate is $50 per hour.Examples of Duties
The duties of this position include presiding over all phases of a broad range of misdemeanor criminal civil traffic and Town Code violation cases as well as civil orders of protection and injunctions against harassment.
Minimum Qualifications
Persons applying as parttime judges pro tempore shall be at least 30 years of age of good moralcharacter and admitted to practice law in and a resident of the State of Arizona for the five yearsimmediately preceding appointment as a judge pro tempore as required by article 6 31 of theArizona constitution. Additionally applicants shall have at least five years of criminal law experience orfive years of experience as a judicial officer or a combination thereof totaling five years experience. Allpotential candidates must familiarize themselves with the ethical restrictions on the practice of lawwhile serving as a special judicial officer located in the Arizona Code of Judicial Conduct which can befound here:
PROCESSIf you meet the qualifications you must submit a completed Town of Marana application and attach a resume and letter of interest. In addition applicants shall submit three letters of reference with their application. Candidates are responsible for verifying receipt of materials. Applications must be submitted by applying online at following the employment link.
Applications including letters of reference will be reviewed by the Court Administrator to determine whether applicants meet the minimum qualifications to serve as parttime judge pro tempore. Applications will then be forwarded to the Town Magistrate for review and recommendation to the Town Council as to which applicants are best suited for appointment as parttime judges pro
