AWS is looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to become part of a global data center engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation within our rapidly expanding data center footprint. This position can be based out of Seattle Washington or Herndon Virginia.

Our Senior Mechanical Engineers take full ownership to design resilient cost effective mechanical systems. As engineers at Amazon we are responsible for achieving a world class uptime for our customers. We drive continuous advancements and improvements with our designs and communicate technical direction to Sr. Management. We seek new ways to enhance the reliability scalability and cost effectiveness of our engineering designs. Key job responsibilities
Work in a crossdisciplinary setting with ability to influence and drive others.
Work has deep and far reaching impact on overall product design/solutions
Advises peer engineers and management team.
Deepdive and perform root cause analysis.
Make technical tradeoffs between shortterm project goals and longterm business needs.
Develop integrated systems extending the life of data center infrastructure products.
Simplify optimize and lower costs of data center mechanical and associated sub components.
Collaborate with internal and external ecosystem partners to design and develop new data center product solutions.
Support field engineering and data center operation teams for performing root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
Leverage economy of scale through standardization and modularization of data center products.
Provide technical subject matter expertise to peers senior management and partner teams.
Develop business justification and narratives to promote new concepts and ideas.
Lead key initiatives for the organization while demonstrating complete ownership.
Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical and associated sub components.
Provide product design support to other team members.
Writing functional specifications design verification plans and functional test procedures.

Bachelors degree or higher in mechanical engineering. Will also accept equivalent domain specific technical experience in lieu of a degree.
7 years of experience in data center design and product development/HVAC design/related product development.
Thorough understanding and use of principals theories and concepts in mechanical engineering.

Masters or PhD in Mechanical Engineering.
Deep understanding of data center mechanical systems and cooling control schemes.
Prior experience working with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including specification design prototyping validation and testing.
Experience with full lifecycle and proficiency at completing tasks to meet associated milestones.
Familiarity of product verification using testing and experience for product certification testing by third party lab.
Experience evaluating design performance and logistical tradeoffs for rack and room level products.
Proficiency with FEA and CFDbased analysis tools.
Demonstrated understanding of engineering documentation electrical and mechanical diagrams and standard operating procedures.
Experience designing air or watercooled systems for highheat density applications.
Knowledge of industry standards such as ASHRAE NFPA ANSI etc.
