ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1965 the ChineseAmerican Planning Council Inc. (CPC) aims to promote the social and economic empowerment of Chinese American immigrant and lowincome communities. Today CPC is the nations largest Asian American social services agency and offers more than 50 programs at over 35 sites throughout New York City including early childhood education schoolage care youth services workforce development community services and senior services. CPC strives to be the premier social service and leadership development organization. In 2017 CPC launched Advancing Our CommUNITY its organizationwide strategy to expand services to address persistent needs and emerging trends and to improve leadership skills among staff and community members. In 2022 our core programs and emergency services reached 200000 people living in all five boroughs and all 51 city council districts. The Learn and Earn Program provides work readiness skills training college access support leadership development and employment opportunities for youth and young adults. Youth are equipped with the experience and skills necessary to make a successful transition into adulthood and are empowered to become stronger advocates for themselves and their communities.

JOB SUMMARY

Learn & Earn is looking for one Job Developer one at the following location:

  • Essex Street Academy 350 Grand St New York NY 10002

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and provide participants with highquality internship and work experiences aligned with participants identified interests and personal strengths.
  • Monitor worksites to ensure compliance with WIOA and DYCD requirements for workbased learning experiences for participants. Monitoring will include onsite visits and email/phone communication with employers.
  • Actively develop and cultivate relationships with prospective employers to maintain a consistent pipeline of highquality relevant/meaningful internship and work experiences for participants.
  • Coordinate workreadiness activities with community partners that are providing participants with career exploration and labor market tools/resources and workreadinessfocused workshops (e.g. searching for jobs writing effective cover letters and resumes and preparing for job interviews understanding labor market information about salaries career opportunities/demand).
  • Assess job readiness of participants (including skills and prior work experience); identify strengths and weaknesses.
  • Develop track and monitor individually tailored plans to assist participants in reaching their personal goals.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling for participants to support general work readiness and postsecondary educational success (e.g. developing college readiness skills such as time management and study habits providing general career/college counseling facilitating academic support and other college and career access support as needed).
  • Assist participants with finding and securing suitable job placements and monitor efficacy of job placements in supporting participants goals and skills development. Help ensure jobs are in alignment with FutureReady school priority sectors as relevant.
  • Help develop and implement strategies to recruit new participants and to maintain positive relationships and engagement of participants.
  • Maintain and update client database help with tracking of milestones and gains as it relates to college and career.
  • Maintain knowledge/awareness of labor market data indemand occupational sectors and employment trends in New York City.
  • Attend meetings professional development/training as required including completing the Mayors Office of Community Mental Healths (OCMHs) Building Connections to Mental Health Support Training or other DYCD or WIOA required/recommended trainings.
  • Report to and fulfill other related duties as assigned by the Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in business administration education social work or related field preferred
  • At least three 3 years of demonstrated successful and relevant experience connecting youth to workplace experiences employer engagement and/or college and counseling.
  • Associate degree with at least three years of relevant experience will be considered as well
  • Employment/occupational counseling or job development experience desirable.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency with PCbased software including Microsoft Office Suite and labor market/career exploration/career assessment/job search tools (e.g. O*NET and Bureau of Labor Statistics) and college (National Student Clearinghouse).
  • Excellent written communication skills time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Quick learner who thrives in a fastpaced team environment.
  • Culturally competent professional committed to providing services sensitive to a young persons cultural heritage and traditions life experiences physical and mental development sexual orientation and gender identity.
  • Strong work ethic and demonstrated passion for working with diverse youth populations including immigrant and lowincome communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English and Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) or Spanish preferred.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS OVERVIEW

  • $25.28 $30.22 per hour; 35 hours per week with occasional evenings and weekends
