Job Description

Such traits are crucial for the success of Wesleyans Fries Center for Global Studies (FCGS) a unit committed to collaborating with all members of our community to advance the knowledge language and intercultural skills selfawareness and empathy needed for responsible participation in our increasingly interdependent world.


Reporting to the Director of Language Resources and Technology the Global Language and Outreach Fellow is responsible for developing implementing and managing highimpact initiatives that support campus internationalization through the lenses of language learning and multilingualism; and for promoting engagement with these initiatives through the FCGSs social media and other channels.


The position works closely with colleagues in the Fries Center for Global Studies and collaborates with Wesleyan language faculty and Wesleyan student groups to further build culture and languagebased communities of practice across campus.


Primary responsibilities include:

Language Learning and Multilingualism

  • Collaborate with campus partners to promote and highlight language learning including working with faculty through the Language Collective and the Deans Office regarding current and incoming students.
  • Identify proficiency and track activities in languages other than English and work with faculty staff and student partners to promote and support a culture of multilingualism
  • Support the Director of Language Resources and Technology in implementing instructional and practice opportunities for languages not regularly taught at Wesleyan and help research technologies applicable to the teaching and learning of languages.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from theFCGSand other offices to plan and implement programming that explores and celebrates language learning and multilingualism through events such as International Education Week and Power of Language Week.
  • Collaborate with relevant staff and faculty colleagues to facilitate and support the socialcultural adaptation of the Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTAs) and facilitate their involvement in language and cultural events throughout the academic year.
  • Plan and coordinate budget dedicated to supporting language events and activities conducted with the FLTAs and student employees.


Outreach

  • Coordinate monitor assess and enhance as needed communication efforts for theFCGSincluding blogs/newsletters social channels web presence and annual reports.
  • Coordinate physical and digital signage in various FCGS spaces.
  • With support from the Director of Language Resources and Technology hire train and supervise student employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.


This a termlimited oncampus position starting on approximately August 16 2025 and ending on approximately August 13 2026.

The position is scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week when scheduled to work.

This position is required to work on campus.

(Relocation assistance to CT is available for those who qualify).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree; academic study in a field related to language and culture and/or extracurricular engagement in language and culture and/or work experience related to teaching or promoting language and culture.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Proficiency in at least one language other than English.
  • Effective problemsolving skills and demonstrated ability to take initiative.
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office including Word Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent working knowledge of social media (especially Facebook Instagram).
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours.
  • Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact collegially with individuals of different backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience living or studying abroad.
  • Media production and/or poster design experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

Consideration for this position is limited to current Wesleyan students graduating in May 2025 or Wesleyan alumnus/alumna/alum.
