Job Description

Position Title:

On Call Career Coach

Position Type:

Fixed Term (Fixed Term)

Hiring Range:

$30 per hr $32.33 per hour

Pay Frequency:

Hourly

POSITION PURPOSE

Reporting to the Associate Director Career Education the OnCall Career Coach works closely withspecific graduate student populations (Graduate Engineering; or Education & Counseling Psychology; and/or Pastoral Ministries & Jesuit School of Theology virtually) and focuses on career development and job readiness support includes 1:1 career coaching mock interviews and developing and facilitating interactive and educational position serves as a collaborative partner to support Career Center initiatives and programs including employer connections events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Career Coaching & Education 75

  • Provide individual and group career coaching inperson and/or remotely via Zoom for domestic and international students in select SCU Graduate Programs. Coaching includes administration and interpretation of career assessment inventories.
  • Critique resumes cover letters LinkedIn & Handshake profiles; facilitate mock interviews; advise on internship and job search strategies; educate on job offer and salary negotiations.
  • Advise students on the use of SCU and Career Center resources and tech tools including Handshake VMock Big Interview PeopleGrove and Career Center website.
  • Deliver inperson and virtual educational sessions for graduate students on career development and transition job search strategies and local/national employment and labor market trends.
  • In consultation with the Associate Director for Career Education maintain existing relationships with campus partners to fully engage the University network in support of students connections to employers and opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Career Center team to support initiatives including student engagement and marketing and data gathering as needed.

Employer & Industry Connections 25

  • Research industry and employment trends and opportunities including staying familiar with employment guidelines requirements and trends for international students.
  • Assist in establishing meaningful connections between students and employers via program coordination and support.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services. Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices. Maintains contact with customers and solicits feedback for improved services. Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives. Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow. Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions. Prepares and submits reports as requested and required. Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.

PROVIDES WORK DIRECTION

May provide work direction to Peer Career Advisors or student assistants.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty items below are representative of the knowledge skills abilities education and experience required or preferred.

This position requires the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.

Knowledge Skills & Experience:

  • Understanding and support of the Jesuit tradition of education and a commitment to the fundamental values of service to others community and diversity as well as a commitment to and demonstrated skills knowledge and awareness to serve the unique needs of the diverse campus community at Santa Clara University.
  • Demonstrated passion and experience in career development and employment internships and experiential learning career counseling and coaching university recruiting relationship development program planning and group facilitation and engagement and consulting with and advising stakeholders.
  • Strong skills in resume critique knowledge of career development process and experience delivering interactive workshops both inperson and virtually.
  • Evidence of a working knowledge of industry and relevant career and internship opportunities in the marketplace. Specialized knowledge related to one or more of the following industries preferred:
    • Engineering Tech Data
    • K12 Education
    • Counseling Marriage & Family Therapy
    • Nonprofit community & social services
    • Ministry religious work
  • Proven experience in working with creative and diverse teams meeting deadlines while working in crossfunctional teams.
  • Refined communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external stakeholders (students campus partners employers) including remotely utilizing Zoom and Google Suite for Education.
  • Experience and comfort with technology and digital communication.
  • Ability to perform under tight deadlines and in a fastpaced environment; flexible with an ability to deal with change and multiple assignments at once.
  • Ability to maintain composure and a positive attitude during periods of high volume and intensity.
  • High level of professional discretion and integrity in handling confidential sensitive information.

Education

Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience required;

  • Coaching certification a plus

Years of Experience

  • 35 years of experience in a combination of the following:
    • Career development coaching recruitment human resources;
    • Tech engineering education ministry nonprofit counseling;
    • Experience with diverse and multicultural constituencies
    • Understanding of Bay Area and Silicon Valley employment communities;
