The Indiana University School of Public HealthBloomington (SPHB) invites applications for multiple tenured/tenuretrack faculty positions in the Department of Health & Wellness Design HWD . This is an openrank search and applicants at all levels (assistant associate or full professors) are welcome. Individuals are sought who will demonstrate excellence in basic applied or translational research on health healthcare or healthrelated interventions. We seek applicants passionate about impactful science training and service towards our shared vision of better health by design. These 10month appointments would ideally start August 1 2023 although an earlier or later start date is negotiable. The School of Public HealthBloomington is located on the flagship campus of Indiana University and is comprised of over 200 faculty across five departments. Continuing the momentum of hiring 25 outstanding tenuretrack/tenured faculty duringthe SPH B is launching another wave of faculty recruitment. The Department of Health & Wellness Design is vigorously growing in research productivity: in just the past year the department had an 800 increase in both perfaculty grant submissions and expenditures hired six new tenuretrack or tenured faculty with NIH funding experience and invested in research laboratories in aging and dementia nutrition and obesity technology and behavioral interventions. As such in addition to seeking highpotential junior faculty to join this wave of rapid growth the department is intent to hire midcareer or senior faculty capable of leveraging it by leading research centers of excellence programprojects funded training programs and other largerscale initiatives. Responsibilities: The successful applicants are expected to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of the department by developing and/or maintaining a robust research portfolio including pursuing and obtaining major extramural research funding to conduct cuttingedge research in modern public health science both as a corresponding principal investigator and a collaborating investigator; teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate and/or graduate level as designated by the department chairperson; and actively providing service internally to the department school and university and externally to the profession and/or the community. Areas of special interest and current strengths include: lifestyle health behavior (nutrition exercise sleep stress management social and sexual activity); aging disability chronic illness and family caregiving; health equity and social determinants of health; informatics technology and digital health; brain health and mental health; pediatrics and familycentered care; patient experience; nonpharmacologic therapies and models of care; and various approaches to design and innovation including humancentered design communitybased participatory research and implementation science. All research areas related to health will be considered with preference given to research that is collaborative synergistic with other SPH B and Indiana University faculty and aligns with major funding priorities. The successful candidate will be instrumental to furthering the departments culture of collaborative impactful research and will lead or contribute to applications for centers of excellence research training programs and similar collaborative initiatives to enhance research infrastructure and national reputation. Candidates should be enthusiastic about contributing to the training of future generations of health researchers and professionals involving students in research and developing education programs that reflect the future of health and healthcare. In fact successful candidates will have the opportunity to establish new PhD or Masters level degree programs in their area(s) of specialty. The department currently provides comprehensive support packages for doctoral students from underrepresented groups or working on health equity. These positions are located on the campus of Indiana University Bloomington IUB in Bloomington Indiana and successful candidates are expected to work on the IUB campus to allow full engagement with the department school campus and community. Indiana University bases its tenure and promotion recommendations upon performance in three areas including research teaching and service. All individuals hired through this initiative are expected to excel in research and provide strong performance in teaching and service. IU SPH B Department of Health & Wellness Design : HWD just celebrated its 75th Anniversary while simultaneously having transformed into the nations first department of its kind and offering the first ever degree in Health & Wellness Design. Health & Wellness Design is our vision of what health and healthcare might look like if healthrelated systems were designed and evaluated on scientific and humancentered principles. The department has 20 fulltime faculty including 15 tenured/tenuretrack faculty conducting research on aging and disability cardiometabolic and brain health behavioral sciences the effect of environment on health humancentered design lifestyle behavior health equity/disparities and technology. Members of the faculty represent various disciplines united by a shared focus on scientifically and intentionally infusing health happiness and wellbeing into the systems where people live work govern and play. The departments dedicated administrative unit supports grants management contracts finance human resources and administration. The department has over 400 students enrolled in its BS MS MPH and PhD degree programs.
