Job Description

Position Summary

The Opportunity:Skagit Valley College (SVC) is currently accepting applications for a fulltime benefitseligible Maintenance Custodian. Hours of work are typically Monday through Friday 4:00 pm 12:30 am which includes a shift premium of $174 per month. During the summer this position may work an adjusted shift and is subject to change according to business needs. The Maintenance Custodian will perform custodial duties to maintain the cleanliness and care of the college facilities as well as routine maintenance in plumbing electrical carpentry mechanical and related work on buildings and facilities.This is a fulltime benefits and retirementeligible classified position at the Mount Vernon Campus. This position will work under the general supervision of the Building and Grounds Supervisor A.

The Location:Skagit Valley College is on the traditional and unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples especially on Swinomish Indian Tribal Community Upper Skagit Indian Tribe Samish Indian Nation Nooksack Indian Tribe and SaukSuiattle Indian Tribe. Located in a geographically diverse region between the dynamic metropolitan hubs of Seattle and Vancouver BC SVC is never far from worldclass outdoor recreation urban arts scenes and local cultural events. SVC serves our local communities with a campus in Mount Vernon Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island and centers in Friday Harbor a Marine Technology Center in Anacortes and a Brewing Academy in Burlington.

Duties and Responsibilities

Custodial cleaning and maintenance

Minor Maintenance duties
  • Repair classroom equipment office furniture (desks chairs pencil sharpeners etc. hardware locks and custodial equipment;
  • Perform minor repairs on plumbing systems and clogged drains;
  • Perform minor repairs on electrical circuits;
  • Repair or replace lights fixtures ballasts and switches;
  • Perform minor carpentry and general woodwork;
  • Paint offices classrooms restrooms all interior and exterior portions of buildings curbs parking lots and patch holes in walls as required;
  • Hang equipment and materials on walls; Perform minor repairs on partitions;
  • Perform routine scheduled maintenance work on facilities equipment and assets;
  • Change filters and perform periodic maintenance on HVAC systems.
Administrative tasks
  • Ensure labor hours are reported on a timely basis for HR processing;
  • Respond to emails check for work orders on Megamation maintenance management software;
  • Participate in and complete in a timely manner all safety classes and tasks.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge and understanding of:

  • Basic plumbing concepts and practices;
  • Basic electrical concepts and practices;
  • Basic carpentry;
  • Basic HVAC maintenance;
  • Basic mechanical systems of commercial buildings;
  • Equipment repair and maintenance;
  • Routine maintenance procedures;
  • Custodial cleaning techniques;
  • Safe handling of basic cleaning chemicals;
  • Safety procedures for custodial and routine maintenance;
  • Safety procedures for handling bloodborne pathogens.
Ability to:
  • Perform minor electrical repairs and replacements;
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs and replacements;
  • Perform minor carpentry repairs on buildings;
  • Perform repairs on building mechanical systems;
  • Perform equipment repairs;
  • Operate hand and power tools related to custodial and maintenance duties;
  • Perform a variety of custodial cleaning techniques;
  • Work effectively as a member of a team;
  • Read and write English;
  • Follow written and verbal instructions;
  • Effectively utilize computers for email time reporting and training purposes;
  • Prioritize work; Work with limited supervision;
  • Work with a diverse group of individuals.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Custodial experience working in a business college or public school environment;
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
