JOB OPPORTUNITY
The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Advanced Practice Provider in the Health Housing & Community Services Department! In this role you willmake assessments provide treatment based on a patients physical and psychosocial condition provide patient counseling and guidance in the maintenance of health and the prevention of illness; and perform other related work as required.
In the Public Health Divisionthe Advanced Practice Provider provides health care at the Berkeley High School Health Center (BHSHC) and the City of Berkeleys Public Health Clinic. This position has overall responsibility for the delivery of clinical care and supports other clinical staff.
This is an hourly parttime position working up to 19 hours per week. It is not a benefited position.
See the full job specification here: QUALIFICATIONSA typical way of gaining the knowledge skills and abilities outlined above is:
- Equivalent to graduation from a Physician Assistant program from an accredited institution approved by the Physician Assistant Board of California (PAB) and one year of clinical experience in a healthrelated occupation; OR
- Equivalent to completion of a graduatelevel Nurse Practitioner program from an accredited institution approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). Completion of an approved preceptorship and appropriate academic training in an area of specialization covering extended roles in traditional nursing and must meet all other requirements as an advanced practice registered nurse as specified in standards by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
Other requirements include:- Must possess a valid and active license as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) or possess a valid and active license as a Physician Assistant by the Physician Assistant Board of California (PAB).
- Must possess the ability to prescribe dispense and administer medication.
- Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business the incumbent is required to maintain a valid California drivers license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

The exam process will include but is not limited to:
Application review for minimum qualifications and required documents(qualifying experience will be calculated based on the administrative review date)
Tests may consist of any combination of written oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include but are not necessarily limited to typing math reading writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency or any other jobrelated knowledge skill ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may without notice change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
