The School of Art Art History in the College of the Arts seeks an Assistant Professor in 3D extended media to join our forwardlooking interdisciplinary program at a topranked public university. The ideal candidate has an active creative practice and innovative pedagogy informed by contemporary art theory and practice. We seek an artisteducator with strong collaborative communication and leadership skills. This position will entail teaching 3D extended media courses at all levels from foundations to graduate seminars. We especially welcome applicants with demonstrated skill with metalwork. Approximately half the teaching load will be dedicated to WARP (Workshop in Art Research and Practice) a teamtaught intensive studio lecture course at the forefront of our foundations curriculum. WARP is required of all studio art and graphic design majors and introduces students to the multidimensional and diverse world of art art making and contemporary theory through a dynamic curriculum that reflects faculty research. WARP is taught in a dedicated offcampus facility.

This position is covered by the United Faculty of Florida Contract. You can view this employment union contract here a 2/2 course load at the undergraduate and graduate levels

  • Courses will include studio art foundations upperlevel undergraduate electives and graduate seminars. Courses may eventually include a course in the universitys General Education curriculum.
  • A typical load will be two 3D courses in the Fall and one section of Workshop for Art Research and Practice (WARP) in the Spring. WARP is a 6 credithour course that counts as two courses.
  • Mentor and advise graduate students supervise graduate committees and supervise graduate teaching assistants.
  • Conduct creative research appropriate to discipline of Studio Art.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff in shared supervision of the 3D and WARP facilities.
  • Actively participate in shared governance and our learning community.

    Minimum Requirements:

    The successful candidate must meet all of the following:

    • MFA or PhD in Studio Art Practice
    • Relevant teaching or instructional experience beyond graduate teaching assistantships
    • Knowledge of contemporary art theory and practice
    • Active studio practice and record of creative research with evidence of emerging recognition in the field
    • Evidence of successful collaboration and collegiality with faculty students and staff
    • Evidence of skill in designing and facilitating academic work that advances curiosity inclusion open intellectual discourse and the wellbeing of all in an environment of complex diversities
    Preferred Qualifications:

    The successful candidate will meet some of the following:

    • Critical approach to the legacies histories and theories of art and art practices
    • Fulltime college and/or graduatelevel teaching experience beyond graduate assistantship
    • Success in teaching at the undergraduate level including foundations courses
    • Success in recruitment and mentoring for undergraduate and graduate students
    • Ability to teach courses or course modules working with metals: casting and welding.
    • Ability to teach courses or course modules working with digital fabrication
    • Innovative pedagogy and/or curricula
    • Capacity to advance interdisciplinary collaborations in teaching and research
    • Strong organizational management and communication skills
