General Information:
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at James Madison University invites applications for one RTA lecturer position to begin in Fall 2025. The position will join a cohort that includes recent hires with expertise in nuclear inorganic environmental and materials chemistry. This cohort hire will build on our history of undergraduate teaching and research training that leverages over $10 million of existing instrumentation including nuclear facilities.
Our department is an undergraduateonly program at an R2 institution. The department currently serves approximately 200 majors and about 3000 undergraduate students each year. We offer a wide variety of courses for chemistry majors other STEM majors general education and prehealth professionals. Majors are actively involved in SAACS AXE NOBCChE and undergraduate research.
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is actively committed to increasing the success of all students attracting faculty and students with a range of backgrounds and experiences and creating and sustaining a more inclusive work and learning environment. We are committed to excellence in undergraduate education research and mentoring undergraduates to help them reach their personal and professional goals. With 28 fulltime faculty members the department offers ACS certified degrees at the bachelors level and teaches courses in all major areas of chemistry. The department houses facilities for nuclear chemistry materials science high performance computing NMR and mass spectrometry. Teaching responsibilities include introductory and lower division
courses and laboratories. Lecturers have service and scholarship expectations in addition to their primary teaching load.
Qualifications:
An M.S. in Chemistry with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework or a Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field is required. Candidates will be evaluated based on their potential to foster and teach in an equitable and inclusive environment at a primarily undergraduate institution.
